ATP 2023 Nordea Open Betting Analysis, Favorites & Predictions

Of the three events on the men’s tennis tour this week, by far, the best field is at the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden. The ATP 250 event is played on clay at the Bastard Tennis Stadium in southwest Sweden, just north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The field includes five players ranked in the ATP top 20, including the last two event champions.

Casper Ruud is the top seed, and he won the event in 2021. Fresh off the quarterfinals run at Wimbledon, Andrey Rublev is the No. 2 seed. Lorenzo Musetti is the No. 3 seed and the defending champion, Francisco Cerundolo is the No. 4 seed. All four receive a bye into the second round.

That said, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming Nordea Open tournament so you can bet against the ATP betting lines.

Ruud the Favorite

Ruud is not only the top seed, but the Norwegian is also the MyBookie favorite at +205 to win the title this week. Ranked No. 4 in the world, Ruud crashed out of Wimbledon early with a second-round loss in his only grass tournament of the season. Much more comfortable on clay, Ruud reached the French Open Final in June before falling to Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

Ruud is 17-6 on clay this season and 116-43 in his career, with a .730 winning percentage. Of his ten career ATP titles, nine have come on clay. He won this event in 2021 but last year lost in his first match to Cerundolo, who went on to win the title.

Ruud is 21-4 this season when winning the first set and just 2-9 when he loses the first set. Eight of his 13 losses in 2023 have come in either grand slams or ATP 1000 Masters events. Ruud has one title under his belt in 2023 at the Estoril Open, a clay event.

Zverev, Rublev Rank Next

Rublev and Alexander Zverev are next up in the odds at +450. Rublev has a bye to the second round, while Zverev, as the No. 5 seed, has to play a first-round match against Alex Molcan. The draw has both players in the bottom quadrant, and they would go head-to-head in the quarterfinals.

Rublev has made a big jump in 2023, winning the ATP Monte Carlo Masters on clay and reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon before losing to Djokovic. He is 14-4 on clay this season and 35-14 overall. He has a tough draw with potentially playing three straight matches against Zverev, Cerundolo, and Ruud/Musetti.

Zverev, ranked No. 19 in the world, is 13-6 on clay this season, and 121-48 for his career. He has six career titles on clay but hasn’t won a title since the 2021 ATP Finals. Zverev missed all of last summer after an injury at the French Open and is still getting back to the form that saw him win six titles, including the Olympics, in 2021.

Cerundolo, Musetti Nearly Even

Cerundolo, the defending champion in Bastad, is +750 to repeat, while Musetti is +800. Both players are clay-court players and in opposite halves of the draw. Cerundolo is in the bottom with Zverev and Rublev, while Musetti is in the top half with Ruud.

Cerundolo is 16-10 on clay this season with a title. He is 18-2 when winning the first set and 13-6 when the match goes to a deciding set. Cerundolo reached the final 16 at the French Open, lost in the finals on clay in Lyon, and recently won a grass-court title at Eastbourne.

Musetti has two career ATP titles, both in 2022 with one coming on clay. Overall this season, he is 22-16, and he is 12-9 on clay. Winning the first set is huge for the Italian as he is 19-1 when taking the first set and 3-15 when losing the opening set.
