ATP 2022 Umag Open, and Generali Open Odds Analysis, Betting Favorites, and Picks

The top male tennis talent in the world is spread thin this week, with three ATP 250 events being held simultaneously. The Atlanta Open kicks off the hard court season, while two clay court events – the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag and the Generali Open – give players a chance to improve their ranking ahead of the final Grand Slam of the season: the US Open.

The Croatia Open stands out for having two of the top young players in the sport in Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Both players are poised for a breakthrough at a Grand Slam and are easily the two leading betting favorites in Croatia. Alcaraz won the tournament last year, defeating Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the finals.

The Generali Open, held in Kitzbuhel, Austria, is one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world, with a history dating back to 1894. It has been part of the ATP Tour since 2010 and has had other names, including the Austrian Open, Be-at-home-Cup, and Head Cup.

This year’s draw includes 2019 champion Dominic Thiem, the home crowd favorite, as well as Spaniards Roberto Bautista Agut and Albert Ramos Vinolas.

It’s time to dive deep and preview this two upcoming tournaments so you can get all set to place your bets against the ATP Odds.

Tennis Betting Preview for the ATP 250 Upcoming Event:  Umag Open, Generali Open Analysis

ATP Umag Outright Odds

  • Carlos Alcaraz -125
  • Jannik Sinner +400
  • Sebastian Baez +850
  • Holger Rune +1200
  • Lorenzo Musetti +1600
  • Alex Molcan +1800
  • Laslo Djere +1800
  • Jaume Munar +2200

A Closer Look at the Favorites

As last year’s champion, Alcaraz is a heavy betting favorite at -125, entering the 2022 Croatia Open Umag. The 19-year-old is the top-ranked player in the tournament and is already one of the top clay court players in the world, drawing comparisons to fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz recently lost in the final of the German Open.

Sinner, meanwhile, is a 20-year-old Italian who is playing his first tournament since Wimbledon, where he lost in five sets to Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final. Sinner won the first two sets. He defeated Alcaraz in the Round of 16.

Sleeper Pick

There’s good value in Lorenzo Musetti at +1600. The 20-year-old Italian is now ranked No. 31 in the world after winning his first ATP Tour event at the German Open.

ATP Generali Outright Odds

  • Dominic Thiem +500
  • Roberto Bautista Agut +700
  • Albert Ramos Vinolas +750
  • Tallon Griekspoor +850
  • Aslan Karatsev +1000
  • Cristian Garin +1200
  • Lorenzo Sonego +1400
  • Dusan Lajovic +1400

A Closer Look at the Favorites

Thiem is the betting favorite here based on experience and history at the Generali Open. He won the event in 2019 but really hasn’t played well – or much – in 2022. He has a 5-8 record this season and really hasn’t looked himself since suffering a wrist injury at the Mallorca Open in June 2021.

Likewise, Roberto Bautista Agut is coming off consecutive opening-round losses at the Swedish Open and Swiss Open Gstaad. There’s a real chance to find value in other players here because it seems unlikely Thiem or Bautista Agut can win.

Sleeper Pick

Dusan Lajovic, coincidentally, is a past champion in Croatia but chose to play in Austria this weekend. The Serbian lost in the opening round of the German Open but went to a tiebreaker in two of the three sets against eventual champion Musetti. He’s been competitive in most of his matches this year and is due for a breakthrough.
