Dan Evans Into Round Three
Dan Evans reached the third round of the 2022 Australian Open over Arthur Rinderknech without ever touching the ball due to the French tennis player’s withdrawal from the tournament. As reported, Rinderknecht has suffered a wrist injury and was unable to continue competing at the first Grand Slam of the year.
With that, Evans, who comfortably won against David Goffin, is through to the last 32, for the first time since 2017, when he reached his career-best R4, but had to admit defeat against Jo Tsonga (7-6, 2-6, 4-6, 4-6).
In Round 3 of the Australian Open, Evans will clash with world no.9, Felix Auger-Aliassime, who had to work for over four hours (4:23) to make it past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Thursday, with 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6.
The duo will clash on Saturday, January 22, at 11:00 local time (AEDT), for the second time in history and the first time since February 2021, when Evans won 2-0.
