Top Tennis Betting Picks for the Week – April 22nd Edition

Written by on April 22, 2019

While the coming week of ATP World Tour action might not produce the same stunning result that this past weekend’s Monte Carlo Rolex Masters did, thanks to the pair of events that are going down in Europe this week, you’re going to have ample chances to increase the annual tennis betting haul. As far as the women’s WTA World Tour, there are three events going down this coming week, headlined by the 2019 TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup in Istanbul, Turkey. Okay, let’s find out who’s in action and which players look like they’re offering great vetting value.

Top Tennis Betting Picks for the Week – April 22nd Edition

Men’s ATP World Tour

2019 Barcelona Open Banc, Barcelona, Spain

The Barcelona Open Banc has been held every year at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 every years since 1953. The ATP 500 clay-court tournament is one of the most important events in Spanish tennis and on the Barcelona social calendar. Spaniards have won 14 of the past 16 editions, including a record 11 wins by the legendary Rafael Nadal who heads up this year’s field and includes stars like Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem among others.

2019 Hungarian Open, Budapest, Hungary

Just two years ago, Budapest, Hungary replaced the former ATP 250 event in Bucharest, Romania, marking the first time that Hungary hosted an ATP Tour tournament. France’s Lucas Pouille won the inaugural edition of the clay-court event, with Marco Cecchinato of Italy claiming the hardware in 2018.

Women’s WTA World Tour

2019 TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup, Istanbul, Turkey

Two former champions are unseeded this year at the upcoming TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup. Defending champion Pauline Parmentier, along with 2016 champion and home favorite Cagla Buyukakcay of Turkey, are both unseeded despite their past success. Top-seeded Carla Suárez Navarro is joined at the tops by fellow WTA stars, Mihaela Buzarnescu, Camila Giorgi and Dayana Yastremska.

2019 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Stuuttgart, Germany

World No. 1 Naomi Osaka headlines a star-studded field that includes fellow stars like Kiki Bertens, Karolina Pliskova, Garbiñe Muguruza and Victoria Azarenka who, ironically, will square off in a first round thriller.

All Matches take Place on Tuesday, April, 23 in the MYBookie Tennis sportsbook.

David Ferrer -700 / Mischa Zverev +500

Prediction

I know 31-year-old Mischa Zverev has gone an awful 1-5 through six matches this year, but 37-year-old David Ferrer hasn’t exactly been setting the place on fire with an uninspiring 5-4 mark in nine matches. Not only that, but the elder of the two Zverev brothers has won the only career meeting between these two, although that match took place 11 years ago on an indoor hard surface. The best wager here is to back Zverev at + 5.5 games, although I think he’s also offering decent value as a +500 pick for the outright win.

Garbine Muguruza -2½ / Victoria Azarenka

Prediction

Two-time Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka is still just 29-years-old, but it seems like a lifetime ago that she was the game’s top-ranked players and seemingly, the only player capable of challenging Serena Williams. Now, Azarenka is a pedestrian 9-7 on the season with zero titles. On the flip side of the coin, 25-year-old Garbiñe Muguruza might also be a two-time slam winner, but she’s also been playing some uninspiring tennis that saw her fall out of the Top 10 last year. These two WTA stars have split their only two career meetings with both matches taking place on a hard court. With Muguruza leading 6-, 3-1 at Monterrey in March, Azarenka retired. Now, I’m thinking Azarenka goes the distance, but falls to her younger counterpart anyway.

Pick: Garbine Muguruza -2½

Anastasija Sevastova -135 / Jelena Ostapenko +115

Prediction

I know Anastasija Sevastova has a 9-8 record this year while Jelena Ostapenko has gone an uninspiring 6-10 since the calendar year turned, but I’m going with the 2017 French Open champion to get the big upset win here to extract some revenge for her 2015 loss to Sevastova. Jelena Ostapenko is a player that doesn’t hold back at all and I believe her aggressive nature will bode well for her in this matchup.

Pick: Jelena Ostapenko in 3 Sets
