2022 BOSS Open 2nd Round Matches and Betting Predictions for Next Round

2022 BOSS Open 2nd Round Matches and Betting Predictions for Next Round

The draw for the 2022 ATP Stuttgart BOSS Open has been hampered by poor weather conditions through the first five days. Some first-round matches only completed on Wednesday and many are still to be played.

Top seeds Stafanos Tsitsipas, Denis Shapovalov, and Hubert Hurkacz have yet to play a single set at the week-long tournament with all three players receiving first-round byes. No. 2 seed Matteo Berrettini played his second-round match on Wednesday and defeated qualifier Radu Albot in a closer-than-expected 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 battle.

Below is a look at some early storylines and the potential match-ups heading into this weekend. Let’s get right to it so you can bet against the ATP Odds.

BOSS Open Predictions: 2nd Round Betting Weekend Matches

Down Goes Humbert

No. 8 seed Ugo Humbert continued his struggles early this season with a loss to fellow Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Umbert, who achieved a career-best No. 25 world ranking in June 2021, is now 4-12 this season and has now lost in the opening round in three of his last four events.

Rinderknech, however, couldn’t capitalize on the upset loss as he was involved in one of only two second-round matches to take place thus far. Benjamin Bonzi, a 25-year old Frenchman in search of his first title, defeated Rinderknech 7-6, 6-2.

Bonzi will face the winner of Oscar Otte and Shapovalov in the quarter-finals and will likely be the betting underdog in either match.

Kyrgios and Basilashvili Headline 2nd Round Matches

Of the remaining second-round matches, there’s none with more intrigue than Nick Kyrgios and Nikoloz Basilashvili. Kyrgios defeated Basilashvili in straight sets in their only career meeting back in 2017, but the Georgian has been much better than the Australian as of late; they’re ranked 26th and 78th, respectively.

Despite their rankings, Kyrgios is the betting favorite at (-400), while Basilashvili is listed at (+300). Either way, expect this one to be a close battle, so three sets at (+175) could be a good value bet. The match is scheduled for 10:25 a.m. EST.

Other Second Round Matches

Andy Murray and Alexander Bublik should be the closest match of the second round, with oddsmakers listing Murray at (-138) and Bublik at (+110). Murray is 2-1 against Bublik in his career and could have the added benefit of extra rest as he opted to skip the French Open.

No. 3 seed Hurkacz, meanwhile, will be in tough against Marton Fucsovics, who has defeated him in both of their prior matches. However, Fucsovics barely put away world No. 139 Jurij Rodionov in the first round and Hurkacz is a much better player on grass. Hurkacz is the betting favorite at (-275).

Looking Ahead

While we should always expect upsets, we could have an incredibly exciting quarter-final match between Tsitsipas and Murray if both players win their Round of 16 match. Hurkacz/Fucsovics and Kyrgios/Basilashvili would be the second quarter-final.

The other quarter-finals are likely shape up to be Bonzi vs. Shapovalov/Otte and Lorenzo Sonego/Jan-Lennard Struff (delayed from Wednesday) vs. Berrettini.

Tsitsipas vs Shapovalov would be the obvious final prediction, but veterans like Murray and Kyrgios could have something to say about that. The final is scheduled for June 12.
