Djokovic, Nadal, Thiem and Medvedev lead the Nitto ATP Finals field

As one might expect, Novak, Rafa, and Dominic are the top three seeds at the ATP Finals. Play started on Sunday, November 15. Check out the two groups and where each player stands heading into Wednesday’s matches.

Group A Record
Novak Djokovic 1-0
Daniil Medvedev 1-0
Alexander Zverev 0-1
Diego Schwartzman 0-1

Because he’s the 1-seed, Novak Djokovic hit the court against 8-seed Diego Schwartzman in his first match. Djoker dominated Diego, sending the Argentinian to the showers after a 6-3, 6-2 beat down.

On Wednesday, Djokovic takes on Daniil Medvedev. Then on Friday, Novak hits balls against Alexander Zverev. Novak should beat both those players to easily get to the semifinals on Saturday.

Medvedev beat Alexander Zverev on Monday. Daniil doesn’t go against Schwartzman until Friday. Even if Medvedev loses to Djokovic on Wednesday, he can still secure a bid to the semifinals. All he must do is beat Schwartzman to stamp his ticket and hope Djoker beats Zverev.

Group B Record
Dominic Thiem 2-0
Rafael Nadal 1-1
Stefanos Tsitsipas 1-1
Andrey Rublev 0-2

Rublev has dropped his first couple of games, 3-6, 4-6 against Rafael Nadal and 1-6, 6-4, 6-7 against Stefanos Tisitsipas. Andrey’s only shot is to beat Dominic Thiem on Thursday and then get some help from Nadal or Tsitsipas.

Thiem is in a great spot. Dominic is 2-0 after beating Tistipsipas 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 and upsetting Rafa 7-6, 7-6. A lot of things must happen for Dominic Thiem not to make the semifinals. So many things that it’s not even worth mentioning. Also, Thiem is playing so well that he should easily handle Rublev on Thursday.

Both Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitisipas will battle for the other semifinal spot. Those two play on Thursday, which means the winner knocks out the loser.

Djokovic could play Nadal or Tsitsipas in the semifinals

Thiem has the easiest path to Sunday’s final. Dominic should win Group B. If he does, he’ll most likely take on Medvedev in the semifinals. Daniil has played much better so far at the Nitto ATP. Before this week, though, he had struggled.

Surprisingly, Novak Djokovic could be on a collision course with one of two rivals that have beaten him in the past, Rafael Nadal or Stefanos Tsitsipas. Novak has the edge over Rafael 29-to-27.

Djokovic has beaten Stefanos Tsitsipas in 4-of-6. No matter any way we cut it, Novak could be in for a long, drawn out, tough fight in Saturday’s semifinal. Make sure to check it out!
