ATP 2022 French Open: Early Odds and Betting Analysis

Early ATP 2022 French Open Odds

Rafael Nadal (+145)

The 21-time Grand Slam champion, and the current most successful tennis player in the world, Rafael Nadal, is priced as the main favorite to win his 22nd Grand Slam and his 14th French Open title. Although it’s rare to see the tennis veteran priced as the top favorite to win any of the Grand Slams, the French Open is an exception to that rule.

The “King of Clay” is the undisputed best tennis player of the French Open, having won the Roland Garros 13 times in his career, including four titles across the last five years. Last year was the first time since 2016 that Nadal did not win in France, but even that was mainly due to the Spaniard’s injuries that plagued his 2021 season.

Still, with his phenomenal performance in Australia, Nadal has proven that injuries are a thing of the past, and he seems to be in top form ahead of the second Grand Slam of the year. And seeing Nadal in top form is definitely a scary thing, especially ahead of the clay-court tournament, where he was practically untouchable for the last half a decade.

Novak Djokovic (+285)

No list of the top favorites to win the next Grand Slam tennis tournament is complete without Novak Djokovic, who came so close to completing the Grand Slam last term but slipped in the United States. Even though he could not attend the Australian Open, the Serb more than deserves our attention, mainly due to his phenomenal form in 2021.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion will attend the 2022 French Open seeking his third title on the French clay, where he won in 2016 and 2021. But while the French Open is his least-successful Grand Slam on the calendar, Djokovic has made four finals since 2012 and has not finished worse than QF since 2009.

However, there is a world where Djokovic will also miss the French Open. Recent reports suggest that unvaccinated tennis players might not be able to attend the tournament. Considering Djokovic’s stance against vaccination, we have to prepare for a possibility that he might not appear on the French clay.

But for now, he is confirmed, and if he ends up playing, he is undeniably the second-most likely tennis player to win.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (+560)

Stefanos Tsitsipas has yet to win a Grand Slam, but if there is one Grand Slam tournament where he might break his dry spell, it’s the French Open. Last year, Tsitsipas enjoyed a solid start to the season, made semis in Australia, and his career-first Grand Slam finals in France.

Even though he had to admit defeat to Djokovic (2-3), Tsitsipas could have easily won the French Open finals had he not choked when he was 2-0 up. But despite his slip-up, Tsitsipas has proven that he can perform on clay and is one of the tennis players to watch out for.

Furthermore, Tsitsipas has shown solid form early into the 2022 season. He made the semi-finals in Australia and came close to beating Daniil Medvedev, so as long as he can keep his wheels spinning, Tsitsipas should be set for a deep run in France as well.
