2023 French Open Quarter-Finals Are Set to Take Bets

2023 French Open Quarter-Finals Are Set to Take Bets

Monday was another great day of tennis at Roland Garros as the 2023 French Open nears a conclusion. In the women’s draw, Ons Jabeur, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff all punched their tickets to the quarter-finals, setting up some great matches. Beatriz Haddad Maia beat Sara Sorribes Tormo 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 7-5 in 3 hours and 51 minutes, making it the longest match on the WTA Tour this season and the third-longest at Roland Garros.

The four men’s matches went as expected also, as Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev, Tomas Etcheverry, and Holger Rune advanced to the quarters. Rune beat Francisco Cerundolo in an exciting, back-and-forth five-set affair.

There are two men’s and two women’s quarterfinals on Tuesday and two more each on Wednesday. Let’s take a look at Wednesday’s must-bet French Open matches.

Iga Swiatek (-1298) vs. Coco Gauff (+670)

Make no mistake; this is Iga Swiatek’s tournament to win. She is the most dominant woman on the WTA Tour, and her preferred playing surface is clay. The 22-year-old is already a two-time winner at Roland Garros and has a remarkable 41-9 record in games in this year’s tournament.

With that said, Coco Gauff is a formidable opponent due for a breakthrough of her own. She hasn’t been as dominant, dropping the opening set in her first- and third-round match, but she gain confidence from the fact she was a finalist at last year’s French Open – although she did lose to Swiatek.

Swiatek is 6-0 against Gauff and hasn’t even dropped a set to the American. For a tournament that hasn’t had many upsets, however, this could be the moment. And, with Gauff’s odds as high as +670, it’s certainly worth a betting unit or two.

Tomas Etcheverry (+214) vs. Alexander Zverev (-319)

As much as it can be fun and exciting to bet on upsets, Alexander Zverev should have little trouble getting past Tomas Etcheverry on Wednesday. The German, who looked poised for a French Open final before withdrawing due to injury in last year’s semis, has returned to form at Roland Garros after a somewhat contentious season.

Zverev has dropped just one set through four matches and has a games record of 79-44. His last two wins over tough opponents in, Frances Tiafoe and Gregor Dmitrov, should give him confidence. Etcheverry is a talented clay court player, but Zverev has the pedigree of having performed well in the past in big moments.

Casper Ruud (-136) vs. Holger Rune (-101)

This is the marquee match of the quarters at Roland Garros, even from a non-betting perspective. There’s tension between Casper Ruud and Holger Rune, with Ruud criticizing Rune’s on and off-court behavior following their match at last year’s French Open.

Ruud is 4-1 against Rune in the five games they’ve played, but the gap has narrowed this season thanks to Rune’s breakthrough season. The talented 20-year-old Dane won his first title this season and beat Ruud earlier this year at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome. I’d lean Rune in this match, setting up a potential semifinal clash with Zverev.
