2022 French Open Betting Update: Trevisan and Gauff Move to Semifinals

The first round of the 2022 French Open quarter-finals is behind us, providing us with what seems like very exciting matches in the penultimate round of the second Grand Slam of 2022.

Today, we will take a look at what has happened on the women’s side of the competition and which two outsiders have fought their way into the semi-finals so you can continue betting against the French Open Odds.

2022 French Open Betting Recap of the 1st Quarterfinals Matches

Trevisan stuns Fernandez

Martina Trevisan became the first semifinalist of the 2022 French Open on Tuesday after she defeated the world no.17 Leylah Fernandez 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-3. The Italian tennis star needed just two hours and 21 minutes to take down the Canadian and book her spot in the last four of a major for the first time in his career.

Even though Trevisan came out ahead, it wasn’t an easy match. The first set was all Trevisan before she faced stiff resistance from Fernandez, who took advantage of Trevisan’s failed attempt to convert a match point at 5-4 and tied the match at 1-1. However, the third set was again all Trevisan, who did not hesitate to close it out with 6-3.

The Italian reaching the QF marks the second straight year in which a WTA 250 tournament in the week leading to the grand slam has presaged a semifinalist. Last year, the same happened with Barbora Krejcikova, who backed her Strasbougfh by winning the French Open.

Moreover, Trevisan became only the third Italian woman to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals in the Open era, besides Francesca Schiavone, who won the French Open in 2010, and the 2012 finalist Sara Errani.

Martina Trevisan has now booked a semi-finals meeting with Coco Gauff, who eliminated Sloane Stephens later the same day.

Gauff Into The Semi-Finals

The days of upsets and shock results continued when Coco Gauff eliminated Sloane Stephens from the quarter-finals of the 2022 French Open, securing her first grand slam SF appearance of her career. The teenager defeated Stephens with 7-5, 6-2, and kept her streak of impressive results alive for a while longer.

Seeing Gauff succeed isn’t as shocking, albeit her main goal over the last few years was to grow at her own pace and ignore all the hype surrounding her. That wasn’t very easy for the 18-year-old, who barely graduated high school and has now moved one step closer to winning her maiden Grand Slam at just 18 years of age.

But it wasn’t like she didn’t deserve to make it thus far. On the contrary, Gauff was undeniably the better player on the day and quickly proved to be too strong for her fellow American, Stephens.

Admittedly, the first set came down to the wire, but despite a couple of close calls, Gauff proved to be too much to handle for Stephens, who couldn’t keep up with the 11-year younger tennis prodigy.

With her success on Tuesday, Gauff has now locked in a spot in the semis-which is her career-best placement at a Grand Slam. She improved her previous best, which was QF at the 2022 French Open when she lost against the eventual champion Barbora Krejčíková by 6-7, 3-6.

Coco Gauff will play her semi-final match on Thursday, June 2, when she will meet with Martina Trevisan for the first time since the second round of the 2020 French Open, which belonged to Travisan (4-6, 6-2, 7-5).
