Next Grand Slam Betting Analysis: Updated French Open Odds

The tennis world is about to switch to the clay courts after the Miami Open ends this weekend. The clay court season will dominate the landscape through May, culminating with the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris from May 28 to June 11.

The French Open is the second of four Grand Slams in both the ATP and WTA tennis seasons. Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open back in January. The odds for the French Open are always changing with each tournament, and they have been updating them as we head into April.

Let’s take a look at ATP favorites for the French Open lines at MyBookie.

Djokovic Remains The Favorite

ATP Player: Novak Djokovic
Country: Serbia
Majors: 22

Novak Djokovic entered into an all-time tie with his 22nd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. Oddsmakers say he will make it 23 at the French Open this spring. Even a small hiatus from play in March can’t stop him from being the favorite at +150, down from +153 last month.

Djokovic missed out on the U.S. swing of the ATP Tour in March because of his vaccination status; missing out on Indiana Wells and Miami cost him the No. 1 ranking in the world but not his status as French open favorite at MyBookie.

Djokovic will be a tough out in any tournament this year. He is on a mission to cement his legacy and make up for the lost chances when he wasn’t allowed into tournaments during COVID. The 2016 and 2021 French Open champion is 85-16 at Roland Garros and lost in the quarterfinals last year.

Alcaraz A Close Second

ATP Player: Carlos Alcaraz Garfia
Country: Spain
Career titles: 8

Youngster Carlos Alcaraz is having a great 2023 season as he returns from an injury over the winter. He missed the Australian Open but has already reached three finals since returning to the tour. As a result, Alcaraz’s odds of winning the French Open are down to +163, right behind Djokovic.

Alcaraz has a title on hard courts and clay this year, and if he wins again at the Miami Open or the Masters on clay, he could surpass Djokovic as the favorite before the first match in Paris.

The No. 1 player in the world could end up as the No. 1 seed in Paris as well. Either way, he and Djokovic should be on opposite sides of the draw, meaning they could only meet in the finals.

Nadal Battling Health

ATP Player: Rafael Nadal Parera
Country: Spain
Grand Slam titles: 22

No one has ever had more success at a grand slam than Rafael Nadal at the French Open. Nadal is +260 to win at Roland Garros this spring, down from +250 earlier this year. The change in odds is mostly due to Nadal’s injuries, as he hasn’t played since losing at the Australian Open in January.

Nadal skipped the hard courts to get healthy and save his legs and back. He is hoping to return to the tour for the clay court circuit to get ready for the French Open. With a couple of matches and tournaments under his belt, Nadal could be a force in Paris to beat Djokovic to title No. 23.

Nadal already has 14 French Open titles on his resume and a career record of 112-3 at the event. He’s never lost in the finals and will likely get a protected seed when the draw comes out, especially if he’s able to play at the warm-up events in Monte Carlo, Rome, and Madrid.

Everyone else in the field is at least +700 to win the French Open.
