French Open Women’s Singles Odds

Are the odds on Iga Swiatek underlaid or overlaid?

At first glance, we want to say underlaid but before locking ourselves into that, it makes sense to consider how much better Swiatek is playing than her competition.

The 19-year-old heads into this after winning the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. That was her second singles title of the year. She’s gearing up to defend her 2020 French Open title and is playing her best tennis of the year.

But the odds are short. Simona Halep knocked Swiatek out of the Australian Open in the fourth-round. Ashleigh Barty beat her in the third-round at the Mutua Madrid Open.

So, yes, Swiatek can win, but she’s no lock and +275 assumes she’s close to a lock. Expect at least +500 before backing.

Among Ashley Barty, Aryna Sabalenka, Naomi Osaka, and Garbine Muguruza, which player offers the fairest odds?

Barty has won 3 singles titles this year: the Yarra Valley Classic, the Miami Open, and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. But Barty’s odds could make her an underlay. If she’s at +450, that does make her an underlay.

Muguruza has won a title this season. But in her last couple of tournaments played, her form has fallen off. Yulia Putintseva beat her in the third-round of the Volvo Car Open.

Osaka didn’t get out of the second-round at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. Usually, Osaka plays much better leading up to a major tournament.

That leaves us with Aryna Sabalenka. Corey Gauff upset Sabalenka in the third-round at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. Before that, Sabalenka beat Ashley Barty at the Mutua Madrid Open Finals. Among the three, Sabalenka is the play.

Who’s offering the most overlaid odds among Andreescu, Svitolina, and Kvitova?

None of the three are playing their best tennis. Neither Elina Svitolina nor Petra Kvitova are worth backing. The odds aren’t great considering their form.

If we had to back a tennis player among the three, it would be Bianca Andreescu. She pushed Ashley Barty at the Miami Open Final, retiring in the third-set after winning the first set and losing the second.

Andreescu is prepping for the French Open at the Internationaux de Strasbourg. She’s got a match on May 28 at 9:00 am ET. If she plays well in that match, consider backing her to win the French Open at the decent +1800 odds.

Is there a +2500 shot tennis handicappers should consider?

Cori Gauff should play fantastic. It took Iga Swiatek three sets to beat Coco in the semifinals at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.

Gauff followed up the excellent performance with a win at the Emilia-Romagna Open. Coco beat a couple of decent players, Amanda Anisimova and Qiang Wang, on her way to the title.

Cori Gauff appears to be surging. Often, when the flip switches, the light stays on for a while. Who knows? The 2021 French Open could be the tournament that make Cori Gauff one of the best in the world.
