My 2024 F1 Spanish Grand Prix Analysis

We are now, once again, waiting for another driver to come along and upset the apple cart.

Through the opening 9 races of the 2024 season, it does not appear as though we are going to see that happen this year. The schedule continues this weekend with the running of the Spanish Grand Prix.

Will Verstappen win again, or will we see someone else take the checkered flag? Let’s look at the current Formula 1 odds.

Max Verstappen F1 Pick -230

While Verstappen has been brilliant again this season, he is actually 1 win off the pace he was setting at this stage last season.

That said, 6 wins out of 9 is still an astonishing hit rate, and it has him 56 points clear at the top of the driver standings.

You could argue that it’s not an impossible lead, but if he continues to rack up the wins, Verstappen is going to be impossible to catch.

A couple of races back, he had a disappointing run in Monaco but immediately bounced back with a win in the Canadian Grand Prix. Now, it’s Spain up next, which is a race that Verstappen has won in each of the last 2 seasons. Would you bet against him at this point?

Lando Norris F1 Pick +500

If there is one driver that I was going to pick as a potential threat to Verstappen in the coming years, my money would probably be on Norris.

He has had 5 full seasons with Formula 1, with 6th overall being his best finish to this point. It does look as though he is about to improve on that in a big way this season.

Norris picked up his first ever win in F1 in Miami recently and has been on the podium in 2 of the 3 races since that victory. Given the breakthrough that he has made this season, I think we can expect another solid run this weekend.

Other Drivers to Consider

You really have to take a look at Charles Leclerc (+740) this weekend, as he has been one of the most consistent drivers from start to finish this season.

Leclerc, won in Monaco and will be disappointed at not being able to finish in Canada. He has been no worse than 4th this season, so a podium finish seems like a decent bet.

This is just the 2nd full season in Formula 1 for Oscar Piastri (+1975), and you have to say that he looks like another one to keep an eye on in the coming years.

He finished 2nd in Monaco, and while it was his lone podium finish this season, he has not been that far behind the top 3 all year. Might be worth taking a chance on a top 3 finish this weekend.
