During the course of the regular season in the NASCAR Cup Series, there are all manner of little battles that take place.
Some are between individual drivers, while others are with drivers trying to conquer a track that is never particularly kind to them.

My Cup Series Analysis
The biggest battle, though, is to land in the top 16 and make it into the playoffs for a shot at winning the Cup Series championship.
It is a long grind, with only the best drivers able to get the job done. We are drawing ever closer to knowing which 16 drivers will be in this year, as there are just 4 regular season races to come.
The first of those is the Cook Out 400 at the Richmond Raceway, this coming Sunday at 6 PM EST. Let’s look at the current odds for this one.
^Christopher Bell NASCAR Pick +420
Expectations were high for Bell coming into this season, given that he has made it to the Championship Round in each of the last 2 years.
That is a difficult trend to continue, and you have to say that Bell has not been at that level to this point in the season.
He is currently sitting down in 8th in the driver standings and will likely need to win a race or two in the postseason if he is to make it to the final 4 again.
He does have a couple of wins under his belt this season, so he is certainly capable.
Furthermore, he ran in the top 3 in 2 of the last 3 races in Richmond, so a top 3 finish looks to be a good bet.

Martin Truex Jr. NASCAR Pick +490
At this late stage of the regular season, we are still waiting to see Truex Jr. win his first race of the year, so it automatically goes without saying that taking him to win this weekend is very much a big risk.
Even a top 3 finish seems like a risky bet when you consider that he has only cracked the top 5 in 4 races this season.
Why then do the bookies have him among the favorites this weekend? Well, he has won twice in Richmond over the past few seasons, but recent form suggests he will not repeat.
^Denny Hamlin NASCAR Pick +490
After a strong first half of the season, where he won 3 races, Hamlin has somewhat fizzled out in the second half.
While he has not been particularly great of late, he has done enough to stay in the top 4 in the driver standings, so no real concerns about the playoffs other than getting back to winning ways before the big races begin.
If he is going to return to winning, this is going to be the track where it happens, as he has a 4th and a pair of 2nd place finishes in his last 3 runs in this race.
^Kyle Larson NASCAR Pick +570
As we have mentioned in previous previews, the lead has changed several times this season. Larson has spent some time in the #1 spot this season and is back there again ahead of this race.
Larson found his way back to the top after winning his 4th race of the season last weekend, but can he maintain his lead this weekend?
I’m not so sure if he can, given that he has not had a lot of luck on this particular track.
