Last Season
This will be the only meeting of the season between these two barring a matchup in the ACC or NCAA Tournament. Last year, they also played just once, a 71-65 Miami home win. Kamari Murphy had 15 points to lead UM. Bruce Brown’s 3-pointer with 1:34 remaining gave the Hurricanes a 67-61 lead. Davon Reed converted four free throws in the final 40 seconds to secure the win for Miami. Reed finished with 14 points. UM was without starting point guard Ja’Quan Newton, who was serving a suspension. Newton is still around. Murphy is not. Why Bet on Miami?
The No. 18 Hurricanes (13-2, 2-1) followed a bad loss at Georgia Tech with an 80-74 home win over No. 24 Florida State on Sunday. The Hurricanes used a balanced offense attack that saw three UM players finish in double figures. Sophomore Bruce Brown Jr. led the Hurricanes attack with a season-high 23 points, connecting on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Fellow sophomore Dewan Huell also chipped in with 20 points, which marked the third time this season he has scored 20-or-more points. Freshman Chris Lykes rounded out the Hurricane scoring leaders, as he poured in a career-high 18 points. Miami’s defense held the Seminoles to 11 points under their season scoring average and limited FSU to just 36.2 percent shooting (25-of-69) shooting. Florida State entered the game averaging 85.4 points per game. The Hurricanes are now 13-0 when leading with two minutes to go in the game. Miami only trailed for 2:17 for the entire game. Miami improved to 6-0 in home games against ranked opponents in the Jim Larranaga era. During his tenure, the Hurricanes are also 40-1 when scoring at least 80 points. Lykes was named ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday. He averaged 13.0 points and 3.5 assists in the two games. Lykes is averaging 7.5 points and 1.5 assists while coming off the bench in all 15 Miami games this season. He is shooting 39.7 percent (23-for-58) from 3-point range. He is averaging 12.0 points per game in ACC play – third on the team. Why Bet on Clemson?
The Tigers are off to their best start since 2008-09. In program history, the Tigers have stared a season 14-1 or better on just five occasions, including this season. Of those previous four occasions, Clemson has made the postseason all four times. Those postseasons include: three NCAA tournaments and one NIT. The Tigers also recently improved to 3-0 in ACC play for just the fifth time in program history (1979-80; 1986-87; 1996-97; 2006-07; 2017-18). Clemson made the postseason the previous four times (three NCAA’s, one NIT). On Monday, they jumped eight spots to No. 17 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll and moving up six spots to No. 19 in the Associated Press rankings. The Tigers achieved their highest standing in the Coaches Poll since Feb. 23, 2009. Right now in the AP poll, Clemson is the fourth highest-ranked team in the ACC. They only trail No. 3 Virginia, No. 7 Duke, and No. 18 Miami. The last time Clemson was ranked in the AP prior to this season was Jan. 18, 2010 when the Tigers were ranked 17th.
