It doesn’t matter how high-profile a coach is or how much he is getting paid each year, you cannot expect anyone to walk into a team and transform them overnight. Yes, there have been situations where that has happened, but generally speaking, a coach needs 2 or 3 years to implement a system and get the right guys to play it. Unfortunately, in the NFL, that amount of time is very seldom granted.
The Oakland Raiders went out in the offseason and laid out a lot of money to get their man, with Jon Gruden now out of the announcer’s booth and back on the sidelines. The early results have not been particularly promising, with the Raiders off to a 0-2 start to the season. Things don’t get any easier for them this weekend, as they need to hit the road and travel to face a Miami Dolphins that is off to a surprisingly good start. These two seem pretty evenly matched, regardless of their records, and the bookies would appear to agree, installing the Dolphins as a 3-point home favorite, with the point total set at 43 ½.
It is somewhat surprising to see anyone other than the New England Patriots atop the AFC East, but before Dolphins fans get too carried away, they should remember that we are only 2 weeks into the season. Still, this is a very positive start for the Dolphins, who you have to say are getting the job done on the defensive side of the football.
They are not putting up remarkable numbers on the offensive side of the football, but they haven’t had to yet, with the defense playing so well, which includes giving up just 79 YPG on the ground. The Dolphins have covered the spread in each of their wins this season and have been a very good bet against the Raiders in that regard, going 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings.

Why bet on the Oakland Raiders?
When Gruden was brought in as the new head coach of this team, he was hired predominantly because of his great work with the offense. The Raiders have some very good pieces on the offensive side of the football, but that is not translating into success through the first two weeks. Oakland is averaging just 16 PPG through their opening two losses, both of which came as an underdog. To make matters worse, they are now going against a Miami team that they usually always seem to struggle against, winning just 2 of their last 10 meetings. That includes having just one win in their last 6 visits to Miami, as well as going 2-4-1 ATS in their last 7 visits there. Each of the last 5 games that these two have played in Miami has gone OVER the point total.Team Stats
