The playoff-hopeful Carolina Panthers will look to build on their fine Week 1 scrimmage win a week ago while the Tennessee Titans look to bounce back during Week 2 from their humbling loss in their preseason opener.
With both teams looking for nothing less than a playoff appearance in 2017, let’s find out if Marcus Mariota and the Titans are the pick as slight home favorites in the latest NFL preseason betting odds, so let’s find out if they can get past Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers
On the other hamd, backup signal-caller Alex Tanney wasn’t overly impressive in completing just 11-of-27 passes for 132 yards while tossing one interception. Defensively, Tennessee held the Jets to just 56 rushing yards, but that’s because they gave up 195 passing yards in the loss while failing to convert their only attempt in the red zone.

Carolina is looking good after they picked up a nice 27-17 win over Houston in their Week 1 preseason matchup last weekend by limiting the Texans to just seven second half points and shutting them out in the fourth quarter. While starting quarterback cam Newton sat out the opener, veteran backup Derek Anderson completed 4 of 5 passes and tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin in the first quarter while third-stringer Joe Webb completed 7 of 14 passes while tossing two TD passes to wide receiver Damiere Byrd, including a 50-yard TD strike. Carolina also rushed for 146 total yards in the win, although they gave up 153 yards on the ground to Houston and let rookie signal-caller Deshaun Watson pass for 179 yards while adding a touchdown run in the win.CAROLINA PANTHERS TEAM STATISTICS

Why Bet the Tennessee Titans Odds at -3
The Titans are probably a good bet in this Week 2 matchup because they stunk up the field in their 7-3 Week 1 scrimmage loss against the New York Jets. While starting quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 2 of 3 passes for 15 yards in his first appearance since breaking his leg in Week 15 of last season. Defensively, Tennessee held the Jets to just 56 rushing yards, but that’s because they gave up 195 passing yards in the loss while failing to convert their only attempt in the red zone.

Carolina has gone 4-1 ATS in their last five games on grass and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games while Tennessee is just 7-21-2 in their last 30 home games and 0-5 ATS in their last five Saturday games. Nevertheless, I like the way the new-look Titans played under head coach Mike Mularkey in his first season a year ago and I believe Tennessee is going to put in a bit more effort in this contest in order to get the ‘feel-good’ win after getting man-handled last weekend. While Carolina’s Ron Rivera is 14-11 in his career in the preseason and 4-2 in Week 2 games, Tennessee went 3-1 under Mularkey during the scrimmage season a year ago and Mularkey owns a solid 9-8 career mark in the preseason. As much as I’d like to pick Tennessee to get the home win in Week 2, I’m going to urge you to back the Carolina Panthers because their backup quarterbacks are far better than Tennessee’s. Take the Carolina Panthers to cover the spread – by winning outright.NFL Week 2 Pick: Carolina 24 Tennessee 17
