Still, since a 2-1 loss to England at the European Championships, Denmark has won 4 straight. The Danes are loaded and should easily handle this handicap.

Hungary +2 ½ (-178) vs England -2 ½ (+133)

• When: Tuesday, Oct. 12

It’s not often we can back England at above even money odds. In this case, we must lay 2 ½ goals, which means the English must beat Hungary by at least 3.

Can the home team accomplish the feat? On October 9, England beat Andorra 5-0. On September 2, England dusted Hungary 4-0. So, yes, the English can cover.

• When: Tuesday, Oct. 12

Before an inspired 3-1 victory over Bulgaria on October 9, Lithuania had been on a 4-match losing streak, including dropping a contest 5-0 against Italy. The Lithuanians will play for the draw in this.

Switzerland will win. But the Swiss may play conservatively because they beat Northern Ireland 2-0 in their last. Backing Lithuania at +1 ½ +120 makes sense.

• When: Tuesday, Oct. 12

Portugal is on a 4-match winning streak. Ronaldo and his mates have won their last couple of matches by a combined score of 6-0.

The Portuguese scored 3 goals over Azerbaijan and Qatar. On Tuesday, Portugal plays a team they beat 1-3 on March 30. Portugal doesn’t need this win. They’ll get it by default, which means Luxembourg has a shot to score a handicap victory.

Greece +310 vs Sweden -119 

• When: Tuesday, Oct. 12

Tuesday’s most competitive match pits Greece against Sweden. The match takes place in Stockholm, which gives the Swedes a big edge.

But Greece is a scrappy squad. The Greeks are on a 2-match winning streak, including beating Sweden 2-1 on September 8. 

But the odds don’t make Greece an overlay. Sweden’s odds do make them an underlay. Backing the draw looks like the best play.

Bosnia & Herzegovina +350 vs Ukraine -135  

• When: Tuesday, Oct. 12

Bosnia has played well, winning 2-of-3. This is a chance for the Ukraine to show they’ll be a WC force, though.

The Ukraine is finally rounding into form. The home team beat Finland 2-1 on October 9. The favorite should make it two in a row.
