The Suns lead 1-0, winning 123-109 in New Orleans on Jan. 19 behind a season-high 52 points from Devin Booker. He was 18 of 30 from the field, 6 of 11 on 3s and made 10 free throws without a miss. Kevin Durant added 26 points and Jusuf Nurkic grabbed 15 rebounds for Phoenix. The Suns shot 49.5% (46 of 93) and led by 30 points in the second half. Zion Williamson scored 24 points for the Pelicans, who didn’t shoot well enough to keep up with Booker and Co. New Orleans missed 32 of 42 3-point shots. Phoenix leads the all-time series 118-109.

Why Bet on Phoenix Suns?

This concludes a five-game trip for the Suns, who are off a 128-103 loss in Oklahoma City on Friday even though the Thunder were without star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Kevin Durant had 26 points and six boards in a losing effort. He is averaging 23.2 points and 7.1 rebounds over his last 10 contests.

Devin Booker had just 14 points and played only 27 minutes. What was really surprising was Booker’s lack of involvement on offense, as his nine attempts from the field represented a season-low mark. Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Booker has totaled 26 instances with 20+ points in a quarter, tied with Stephen Curry (26) for the most such games over that span.

Center Jusuf Nurkic returned to the lineup on Friday and had five points and three rebounds in only 23 minutes. He had missed the previous game with a minor injury. Grayson Allen struggled from deep in hitting just 1-for-9 to finish with 13 points. Allen is still one of three players in the NBA this season shooting 50+ FG%, 40+ 3FG% and 88+ FT% (Kawhi Leonard & Al Horford). He has matched the Suns franchise record for threes in a game three times this season with 9 and ranks 2nd in the NBA in games with 8+ triples this season at 7.

The Suns announced on Saturday that Isaiah Thomas has been signed to a second 10-day contract. The former All-Star has played sparingly since signing his first 10-day deal with the Suns. He tallied five points and an assist in eight minutes Friday. Per NBA rules, a player can receive a maximum of two 10-day contracts before either being signed for the remainder of the season or waived.

The Suns have won 11 of the last 15 regular season meetings against the Pelicans and 15 of the last 21, including the playoffs. The Suns have scored 120+ points in 9 of the last 15 regular season meetings with New Orleans. Booker holds 6 of the 7 highest scoring games by a Suns player in the series, including a Suns vs. Pelicans high 58 on Dec. 17, 2022. Booker’s 58 points on Dec. 17, 2022 against the Pelicans set the Footprint Center scoring record, 36 of which he scored in the second half.

Why Bet on New Orleans Pelicans?

New Orleans was beaten 104-92 at home by Boston on Saturday as the Celtics avoided what would have been their first three-game skid of the season. Ahead 59-57 at halftime, Boston took control in the third quarter, limiting New Orleans to 11 points while Kristaps Porzingis had two of his blocks. The Celtics went ahead 79-68 on Jayson Tatum’s 3-pointer with 4:12 left in the quarter and led by double digits the rest of the way, going up by 22 in the fourth quarter.

The Pelicans shot 4 of 23 in the third quarter and Zion Williamson missed all five of his attempts, guarded primarily by the 6-foot-6 Brown. New Orleans did not score after Trey Murphy’s 3-pointer with 4:37 left, going 0 of 6 with three turnovers.

Williamson finished with 25 points and nine boards. Williamson was responsible for 14 of the Pelicans’ 18 free-throw attempts but he was able to connect on only half of them. He’s shooting 70.4 percent from the charity stripe this season, and he upped that to 75.2 percent in March heading into Saturday’s game. Since the All-Star break, Williamson is averaging 23.7 points on 58.7 percent shooting along with 6.7 rebounds. Since March 1, Williamson leads the NBA in field goal percentage at 62%. Overall this season, Zion is one of two NBA players to average at least 22 points and shoot 58% or better from the field.

CJ McCollum had 24 points. Among all NBA players, he is ranked 1st in three-point percentage in shooting 41.4% (min. 7 3PA per game) from deep range. He is the only player in the NBA to average 18-plus points, 1.6 or less turnovers per game and shooting 41% or better from three-point range this season.

Center Jonas Valanciunas had just two points and five boards in 15 minutes. Coming off a strong double-double performance against the Bucks on Thursday, Valanciunas saw just 15 minutes of playing time Saturday. He was not on the floor for the start of the second half, as Larry Nance joined the starting lineup. Valanciunas has seen his minutes wax and wane over the course of the regular season depending on matchups. Valanciunas is ranked 21st in the NBA in rebounds per game (9.1) and has 32 double-doubles on the season, which is ranked 15th in the NBA.

The Pelicans went 10-4 in their 14 games in March which is ranked 3rd in the NBA in win% (71.4%). Additionally, the Pelicans are ranked 3rd in defensive rating (107.2), 4th in net rating (8.6) and 12th in offensive rating (115.7) since March 1.

New Orleans remains without one of its best players in forward Brandon Ingram. Ingram is one week removed from being diagnosed with a bone contusion in his left knee. He was expected to miss at least two weeks but appears to be handling rehab well. Trey Murphy has been starting in his spot.
