Rally Croatia and 2022 Talking Points

The season started in Monte Carlo, where 9-time WRC champion Sebastian Loeb took us back to get his 80th career win after returning to the tournament with M-Sport Ford. He was locked in an exciting battle with Ogier. However, a puncture for Ogier on the penultimate phase gave Loeb the advantage, sweeping the victory by 10.5s.

Next, we saw an epic battle in Sweden, where Rovanpera scored his third WRC victory as the tournament took place in the Swedish snow. Although Hyundai’s Neuville ended day 1 leading, a dominant Saturday by Rovanpera took him to first place, seeing off Evans in the process. In the end, Rovanpera came first, Neuville settled for 2nd place, and Lappi took third after Evans crashed into a snowbank.

Rally Croatia Entry List and Current Standings

Jonne Halttunen will accompany Kalle Rovanpera as part of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team in the GR Yaris Rally1. Following them are Thierry Neuville and Marijn Wydaeghe of Hyundai Motorsport in the i20 N Rally1.

We will also see #44, #18, and #42; Gus Greensmith/Jonas Andersson of the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team in the Puma Rally1, Takamoto/Aaron Johnston of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Team in the GR Yaris Rally1, and Craig Breen/Paul Nagle of the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team in the Puma Rally1, respectively.

Other notable mentions include Esapekka Lappi & Janne Ferm, Oliver Solberg & Elliot Edmondson, Ott Tanak & Martin Jarveoja, Elfyn Evans & Scott Martin, Adrien Fourmax & Alexandre Coria, and Pierre-Louis Loubet & Vincent Landis.

The top five positions are occupied by Kalle Rovanpera with 46 points, Theirry Neuville with 32, Sebastian Loeb with 27, Gus Greensmith with 20, and Sebastien Ogier with 19 points. This could change in Croatia as Takamoto Katsuta lurks in 6th place with only one point off 5th place.

Motor Sports: Rally Croatia New Regulations Benefits

The new Rally1 regulations have helped move the WRC towards its goal of a sustainable future and a bid to attract new players. As a result, manufacturers such as M-Sport Ford, Hyundai, and Toyota have designed and built newer cars around a new, safer steel spaceframe chassis. One of the biggest changes is introducing a required 100kW hybrid unit included in the 1.6-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine.

As a result, the change will allow the car’s powertrain to develop 500bhp that drivers can use in short bursts for each stage. Also, the new regulations have eliminated additional aerodynamic devices like flicks and wings being added to the exterior outside the rear wing and front splitter. Therefore, we can say that we will be witnessing more superior cars compete.
