Betting the Top Stakes Races for the Weekend

This weekend, Saratoga highlights female turf runners in the Grade 2 Flower Bowl Stakes and 2 year old fillies in the Grade 1 Spinaway.

Del Mar has their highlight day of the summer meet when top horses on the west coast, including mare Adare Manor, join the starting gate for the Grade 1 Pacific Classic.

Grade 2 Flower Bowl Stakes

1 3/8 miles turf – 4 year old fillies and mares

Ageless War Like Goddess, a 7 year old mare, leads the field for Saturday’s Grade 1 Flower Bowl Stakes.

War Like Goddess won a grade 3 in her last.

Expect most of the betting dollars to land onto the mare.

Eternal Hope, Cristophe Clement trained La Mehana, Parnac, and Millie Girl will attract action.

McKulick, a Chad Brown runner, may challenge War Like Goddess for favoritism.

Brown’s other runner, Idea Generation, also has a shot.

Grade 1 Spinaway

7 furlongs dirt – 2 year old fillies

Brad Cox hopes that Immersive, a Nyquist sired filly who broke the maiden in July, is as good as she looked when scoring the first victory.

Immersive is likely to go off the chalk in what will be an interesting race.

Todd Pletcher won’t start a filly.

So Sherbini and Reliable Source should have their fans.

Sherbini comes from the Mark Casse barn and Steve Asmussen trains Reliable Source.

Salted, another Mark Casse charge, will also run.

Saffie Joseph Jr. puts the saddle on The Queens MG, a solid winner of the Adirondack in the last.

Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap

1 3/8 miles turf – 3 year olds and up

D’Amato’s top runner is Gold Phoenix, a turf specialist that has had much success over Del Mar’s grass.

Balnikhov and Rockemperor will also run for D’Amato.

Favoritism should land onto Rick Dutrow trained Master Piece.

Since returning to the races after a 10-year suspension, Dutrow’s horses have excelled on the track.

Richard Mandella has a contender in Linda’s Gift.

There Goes Harvard, Dicey Mo Chara, and Balladeer should also run.

Grade 2 Del Mar Mile

1 mile turf – 3 year olds and up

There’s a great possibility Bob Baffert saddles the favorite in Du Jour.

The Del Mar turf mile specialist may try to steal the race on the front end.

Peter Miller’s Exulted and Phil D’Amato trained Conclude will challenge Du Jour.

Irideo, Astronomer, and Brand all have a shot.

First Peace and Halfway Line should also run.

Grade 1 Pacific Classic

1 ¼ miles dirt – 3 year olds and up

The 5 year old mare has won three straight graded races.

Two of the three were grade 1 events.

The Baffert runner can go to the lead or stalk, which give her a tactical edge.

Baffert’s other runner, Reincarnate, also has a chance.

Dr. Venkman and Il Miracolo are the other two horses that players are likely to back.

Mixto, None Above the Law, and Full Serrano are longshots.

Doug O’Neil has a shot with Katonah.
