Written by on July 8, 2019

Okay boxing fans and betting enthusiasts, with just one ‘real’ title fight going down in the U.S. this coming week and a less known title bout also taking place, you might be getting the ‘big name’ pairings you’d probably like to see, but that certainly doesn’t mean you won’t have your share of chances to potentially cash in with winning wager.

With one huge title bout and one other fight that looks like a prelude to another championship bout just waiting to happen, both could turn out to be meaningful affairs for the respective winners, let’s find out who’s in action and which fighters are looking good against their boxing odds.

Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – July 8th Edition

Rey Vargas (33-0, 22 KOs) vs. Tomoki Kameda (36-2)

  • When: July 13 2019,
  • Where: Carson, Calif.
  • TV: DAZN

Kameda and Vargas will square off in a 12-round battle for Vargas’ WBC junior featherweight title. Tomokia Kameda stands 5’7” woth a 66-inch reach. The 27-year-old from Japan has won five straight fights including a unanimous decision win over Abigail Medina in November. Rey Vargas stands 5’7½” with a 70-inch reach. The 28-year-old from Mexico has never been beaten and enters this bout coming off a unanimous decision win over Franklin Manzanilla in February.

“I think both he and I have changed in many things, the professional ranks are different and the fight will be different, but the result will be the same, we will win because our ability to adjust is better as the fight progresses,” Vargas told reporters recently.

Prediction

Vargas defeated Tomoki Kameda when they were amateurs in Mexico and I’m going with the champ to get it done again, though I’m not expecting a cakewalk win by any stretch of the imagination. Kameda is an excellent fighter, but Vargas has never been beaten and I expect him to problem-solve his way to the unanimous decision win.

Boxing Betting Pick: Rey Vargas Via Unanimous Decision

Diego De La Hoya (21-0. 10 KOs) vs. Ronny Rios (30-3, 14 KOs)

  • When: July 13 2019,
  • Where: Carson, Calif.
  • TV: DAZN

These two featherwieghts will square off in a 12 round battle on Saturday. Ronny Rios stands 5’6” with a 70-inch reach. The 29 year-old from California comes into this bout off a 10-round unanimous decision win over Deivi Julio Bass in December after losing to Rey Vargas in his previous bout. Diego De La Hoya stand 5’6” with a 68-inch reach. The 24-year-old California native and cousin of 10-time world champion Oscar de La Hoya comes into this bout off a seventh round retirement win over Jose Salgado in June of 2018.

Prediction

This bout is clearly set up as a stepping stone matchup for the gifted De La Hoya and it looks like a routing affair just waiting to happen seeing as how De La Hoya is the younger, stronger and faster fighter in this affair, not to mention the fact that he’s never been beaten. De La Hoya wins via unanimous decision, seeing as how he clearly doesn’t have the finishing power of his famous kin.

Boxing Betting Pick: Diego De La Hoya via Unanimous Decision
