Number 10 FSU suffered a shocking last minute field goal loss to Georgia Tech in a game that happened in Dublin, Ireland.
The Seminoles were 10.5 points favorites to beat Tech in a game that many expected to keep Florida State’s regular season winning streak alive.
But the Seminoles were pushed around on both sides of the ball. It’s a concern for sure.
Still, because of the expanded College Football Playoff, losing to a team like G-Tech, which is on the rise, isn’t a death knell.
FSU has plenty of chances to show they have what it takes to make the final 12.
Georgia versus Clemson Highlight Game of Week 1
The top game of the week based on rankings pits 1-Georgia versus 14-Clemson.
How good, though, is Clemson compared to Georgia?
On paper, the Tigers shouldn’t be ranked in the top 15.
The top 20, maybe, but not the top 15.
Under Cabe Klubnik the offense often sputters.
Klubnik has some talent but he’s not a top college football quarterback.
He definitely isn’t on Carson Beck’s level. So don’t be surprised if the “the game of the week” ends in a Georgia blowout victory.
Texas A&M versus Notre Dame will Send Aggies Up the Rankings and Irish Down the Rankings
Oddsmakers and bettors are bullish on 20-Texas A&M’s chances of beating 7-Notre Dame.
The game happens on the Aggies’ field, which explains why A&M are 3-point favorites.
Mike Elko, who took the Duke football program to new heights, will shut down Notre Dame’s offense.
Elko is a defensive mastermind.
Texas A&M’s offense is going to show more life than it has in any of the previous seasons under Jimbo Fisher.
After this game, A&M will soar up the rankings while the Irish will fall.
Notre Dame will remain ranked because they will have lost to a ranked squad on the road. But the Irish fans won’t be happy.
LSU a Big Underlay Versus USC
Since Brian Kelly took charge in Baton Rouge, the LSU Tigers have been one of the SEC’s top squads.
That won’t change this season, but LSU fans shouldn’t get their hopes up that LSU covers the 6.5 points.
The AP has the rankings right based on last season and heading into this season.
LSU versus USC happens at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, though.
Sure, Tiger fans travel, but Vegas is less than 5 hours away from L.A. USC fans should arrive in droves.
That’s not the only reason to like the Trojans.
Lincoln Riley has a solid offensive line, Miller Moss is going to be a revelation at quarterback, and Woody Marks, a transfer from Mississippi State, is the type of bruising back you need to handle Big Ten defenses.
But although the offense will be good, it’s the defense that should catapult USC to a cover win versus LSU.
D’Anton Lynn takes over as defensive coordinator.
Lynn has revamped the D transferring top talent everywhere in the unit.
USC will have a chance to win this one straight up in the fourth quarter.
