The Betting Edge: Expert Picks for Week 5’s Biggest Matchups!
Betting College Football Games
College Football Week 5 kicks off this Thursday and runs to Saturday.
Three of this week’s top matchups happen on Saturday.
Georgia at Alabama headlines the week’s best games followed by Oklahoma State at Kansas State and Louisville at Notre Dame.
Also on Saturday, Penn State faces a strong Illinois team and Oregon, Texas, and Ohio State play glorified scrimmages.
Keep reading for the top stories in this week’s college football betting guide.
Writer’s Picks for the Fifth Week of the NCAAF Season
Checking Out the Best Games
The best game of the weekend will take place in the SEC as the Georgia Bulldogs will visit the Alabama Crimson Tide.
This might be a preview of the national championship game, and it’s Georgia that is a slim two-point favorite on the road.
Georgia has not been as dominant this season, and this is a chance to get some points while betting on Alabama at home, and they aren’t going to miss out.
Take the five points and bet on Oklahoma State to at least keep this game close on Saturday.
Two of Big 12’s best clash when Pokes battle Wildcats
Kansas State is -3.5 home favorite to beat the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Although K-State has the home field edge, the Pokes did an excellent job containing Utah’s dual threat quarterback Cam Rising even though the Utes beat Oklahoma State 22-19.
Johnson hasn’t developed the passing skills that Rising has.
The K-State will try to run the ball.
Mike Gundy knows this.
So expect an underrated Oklahoma State defense to be ready.
Favorites Will Roll
There are going to be a couple of Top 25 teams that have little trouble rolling to a win in Week 5, and that is a chance to cash in.
Two other favorites to back are:
-
BYU Cougars vs Baylor Bears
-
Oklahoma Sooners vs Auburn Tigers
Miami, Texas, Ohio State and Oregon get free squares
Cam Ward and Miami, Will Howard and Ohio State, and Texas’ Arch Manning get to show off their exceptional quarterbacking skills this week.
The Hurricanes face Virginia Tech on Friday night.
All three teams should roll to easy cover wins and maintain their top 10 rankings.
Penn State faces home test versus Illinois
While Ohio State will be beating up the Spartans on Saturday, Penn State will try to get the home win versus Illinois.
The Illini used an obvious non-call against Nebraska to score an overtime upset victory in their last.
The Illini are a solid team.
The Nittany Lions are at home for this one, though.
Penn State will show up and win the game but covering the -17.5 won’t happen because Illinois plays with fire.
Arizona looks for redemption on the road against Utah
The Arizona got a bye after the awful 31-7 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats.
Although Zona will play better against Arizona Wildcats, their lines aren’t good enough to a) give Noah Fifita time to find Tetairoa McMillan and b) stop Cam Rising from using his arm and feet to beat the Wildcats’ defense.
Once Zona’s lines gel, the Wildcats will be a decent team.
But right now, the lines are a mess.
It showed in the first game when the Cats allowed New Mexico to score 39 points.
Utah wins and covers.
Louisville battles Notre Dame in South Bend
Almost as important? They play with discipline and have an edge to them.
Notre Dame could be in some trouble in this.
Riley Leonard, Duke’s former quarterback, has thrown a single TD pass.
Notre Dame beat Purdue and Miami of Ohio in impressive fashion but those two teams aren’t close to Louisville.
Wait for a moneyline and see if the Cardinals offer an overlay payout before betting this against the spread.
2 Georgia throws down against 4 Alabama in Tuscaloosa
Georgia heads to Bama a -2.5 road chalk.
The odds make no sense.
Kirby Smart had limited success against Nick Saban coached Alabama teams and Smart knew Saban’s philosophy.
Kirby has never faced a Kalen DeBoer offense.
DeBoer is going to find a way to move the football against Georgia, this happens on Alabama’s field, and the Tide are rolling on offense and defense.
Bama scores the SU victory.
Take the Points
College football can be a very unpredictable sport, and there are so many times that you simply want to take the points.
That’s the case in a number of Top 25 matchups this weekend, including an interesting clash in the Big Ten.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are getting no respect as an 18-point underdog at Penn State, and you simply have to take those points.
Kentucky is another team getting disrespected as they are going to keep it closer than the 17.5 points will suggest.
You should also jump on Mississippi State at +38.5 against Texas and UCLA at +25.5 at home against Oregon.
Do your research, get that edge needed to win your next collge bet.
