Is Michigan Ready for the Next NCAAF Season

Can lightning strike twice?

Heading into the 2024-2025 NCAAF season, the Wolverines are tepid +2500 to pull off the repeat. Michigan went through plenty of changes during the offseason.

Are the Wolverines a real contender to get it done? Or should college football bettors stay away from Michigan to win a second straight title?

Check out college football odds and an analysis regarding Michigan’s chances of once again lifting the title trophy.

Why is Michigan a +2500 Odds Choice to Win the National Championship?

Seven teams offer lower odds to win the National Championship than the Michigan Wolverines.

Rival Ohio State is the second choice at +425. Georgia is the favorite at +320.

Texas and Oregon, which now plays in the Big Ten Conference like Michigan, offer less than +1000 odds.

Three SEC teams, Alabama, Ole Miss, and LSU, also offer lower odds than the Wolverines.

The reason Michigan is a +2500 choice on Florida State’s and Notre Dame’s level is because the Wolverines went through massive changes during the offseason.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy, along with plenty of other starters, bolted to the NFL.

Michigan has 7 fresh faces on their offense. Also, the Wolverines lost head coach Jim Harbaugh to the L.A. Chargers.

Not only that, but the schedule is tough. Texas, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC are on the schedule.

The good news is that if Michigan wins most of their most difficult games, the Wolverines will secure a spot in the new 12-team College Football Playoff.

Michigan Projected Starters – Offense

  • WR Frederick Moore
  • WR Tyler Morris
  • WR Morgan Semaj
  • LT Myles Hinton
  • LG Josh Priebe
  • OC Greg Crippen
  • RG Giovanni El-Hadi
  • RT Andrew Gentry
  • TE Colston Loveland
  • QB Alex Orji
  • RB Donovan Edwards

Why Michigan is a good bet to win the National Championship

Sherrone Moore takes over as head coach.

Harbaugh had to sit out six games this past season due to NCAAF infractions.

Moore proved he can run the Wolverines by leading Michigan to wins in every one of the six games.

Consistency is big in college football and Michigan has it with Moore.

Not only that, but quarterback Alex Orji, who is the likely choice to win the starting quarterback job, is a dual threat QB that has shown flashes of brilliance in the spring.

The defense will be good because Michigan’s D always attracts top players.

If the offense can get it together, the Wolverines could for sure outplay their opening odds to win the National Championship.

Why Michigan Isn’t a Good Bet to Win the National Championship

It’s a tough season to go through so many changes. Moore did well while Harbaugh sat out with a suspension. But Moore doesn’t inherit the same balance on offense and defense he had last season.

Not only that, Ohio State is loaded. So is Oregon and USC is a semi title contender. The schedule, like mentioned above, is daunting.

In addition, even though the CFP Selection Committee has expanded to a 12-team format, the bar should be as high as ever to get into the top 12.

The SEC has plenty of talent, which means Michigan can’t lose more than 2 games and expect a CFP bid.

Oregon, USC, Ohio State, and Texas are going to make things tough on Moore and the Wolverines.

Michigan Analysis: Should We Back the Wolverines to Repeat?

Few teams with as much talent as Michigan offers high odds the way the Wolverines do.

Michigan has a better roster than both Notre Dame and Florida State.

So if you’re looking to play one of the +2500 choices, the Wolverines are a top pick.

Another reason to like Michigan is because Moore has smoothly moved into the head coaching position. The Michigan HC knows how to run a top program.

He prepared the Wolverines to win six straight games with Harbaugh on the sidelines. Moore is a proven commodity who will get the best he can out of Michigan’s offense.

Another reason to like Michigan is because games versus USC, Oregon, and Texas happen in Ann Arbor.

If the Wolverines in all three, Michigan will secure a College Football Playoff spot even if they lose to Ohio State in Columbus on Nov. 30.

But even if Michigan grabs a CFP bid, they must contend with the likes of Georgia, Ohio State again, Oregon again, and the best the SEC has to offer. So winning the title is a longshot.

When it comes to +2500 odds choices, though, we’re taking a flyer.

So although the chances of the Wolverines winning the title aren’t great, the odds are fair and Moore is a master at motivating players.

The Michigan Wolverines are true contenders.

So at +2500, betting the Wolverines to repeat as National Champions makes sense.
