Tulane Green Wave Props & Picks: Will they exceed expectations in 2024?

One of the strange things about college football is that a great season can mean that you are not quite in the same position to succeed in the following season.

Success tends to mean players leaving for the NFL Draft, or sometimes coaches deciding it’s time to look for a bigger and better job.

My Analysis

This is just one of the reasons why maintaining a high level of performance in college football is so tough.

Turnover is a big part of the game now, especially now that the portal plays such a big role in how teams go about recruiting fresh talent.

The Tulane Green Wave have had back-to-back great seasons in the AAC, but they will be starting fresh with a new head coach.

What impact is that going to have on them this year? Let’s see if we can figure it out.

Tulane Green Wave Regular Season, Conference, and Win Total

Like we just said, it is going to be a new look for the Green Wave on the sideline in 2024, with coach Willie Wirtz heading to Houston and Jon Sumrall taking his place.

The new coach has some big shoes to fill, with Tulane hitting double-digit wins in each of their last 2 seasons, although 2023 wasn’t quite as good as the year prior.

It is never easy for a coach to take over a team and see immediate success, as it takes time to put his system and players in place.

With that in mind, expectations seem to have been tempered this season, with the Tulane win total set at 7 ½.

With a pair of ranked teams in the form of Kansas State and Oklahoma on the schedule in the opening 3 weeks of the season, it could be a trial by fire for the new head coach.

Sumrall is a coach better known for his defensive skills than his offensive skills, and he does not have an awful lot to work with on the offense this season.

The receiving group seems a little light, while the O-Line will be undergoing something of a rebuild, with just 1 returning starter.

This is a team that is probably going to need to lean pretty heavily on the D.

Tulane expects the new coach to come in and work his magic on the defensive side of the football, but again, this is going to take time.

The Green Wave do seem to be stacked in the secondary, as they look to limit the amount of splash plays against them.

All in all, though, this feels like the start of a rebuild, and while I think winning the conference might be tough, the Green Wave should be there or thereabouts at odds of +350 to win the AAC.

U think 8 or 9 wins seems like the way to go when betting on Tulane this season.
