2024 Tour de France Top 3 Picks and Why Each Will Win the Tour
The world’s most famous cycling race, the Tour de France, starts peddling on Saturday, June 29. The race kicks off in Italy and then resumes in France.
Odds haven’t changed with Tadej Pogacar, the Giro d’Italia winner, a solid -220 to take his excellent form to France.
Pogacar’s chief rival, Jonas Vingegaard, offers +200 second choice odds while Primoz Roglic is at +850.
Check out why each of the top three Tour de France choices will, or won’t, wear the yellow jersey on July 21.
2024 Tour de France Top 3 Picks and Why Each Will Win the Tour
Roglic may be due. Primoz finished fourth at the Tour in 2018.
The fact he’s back in France means he’s feeling good about his chances.
Primoz rides for Bora-Hansgrohe this season after spending most of his time at Jumbo. The team change could do him good.
When Roglic is motivated, he’s one of the top three cyclists in the world. Also, he offers more value than Pogacar or Vingegaard.
Why Primoz Roglic won’t win the Tour de France
If it didn’t happen in 2018, it’s not likely to ever happen.
So he is in decent form, but a win in that Criterium doesn’t mean he can take down the top two cyclists on the planet.
Also, for some reason, Primoz underperforms at the Tour de France.
He always has.
The Jumbo-Visma cyclist, and the reason Roglic is no longer Jumbo’s top cyclist, will be looking for his third straight Tour de France victory.
Vingegaard looked dead to rights versus Pogacar last year.
All Jonas did was rally to overtake Tadej in the final few stages.
When Vingegaard is at his best, the only cyclist that can potentially, we write potentially, beat him is Tadej Pogacar.
Jonas won the Tirreno-Adriatico this year.
Why Jonas Vingegaard won’t win the Tour de France
Vingegaard got the worst of the terrible crash at the Tour of the Basque Country.
The early April race knocked Vingegaard out of training for a couple of months.
We don’t know in what shape Vingegaard will show in France.
For sure, if he’s one hundred percent, Jonas can win a third straight. But if he isn’t at one hundred percent, Pogacar is the one to beat.
Even though he had to race not at one hundred percent, Tadej appeared in charge late at the 2023 Tour.
It took a massive effort from Vingegaard to catch Pogacar.
This year, Tadej is determined to close the door on his rival. Pogacar is in excellent form, winning the Volta a Catalunya and the Giro d’Italia.
Why Tadej Pogacar won’t win the Tour de France
Tadej may have peaked too soon. The Giro d’Italia victory was such a smashing win that it’s difficult to see Pogacar getting it done at the Tour de France.
Then again, this is Tadej Pogacar.
He’s as determined as any cyclist on the planet and he’s still smarting after losing the yellow jersey to Jonas Vingegaard at last year’s Tour de France.
At the end of the day, Pogacar gets the nod.
The odds are light, but Roglic isn’t on Vingegaard’s and Pogacar’s level while Jonas must race in the grueling Tour de France after losing training time.
Tadej Pogacar is the pick to win the Tour de France.
