The last time the players were here was in 2014. This is a par 71, 7,609 yard course. There will be 156 players, which are essentially the top golfers in the world. The total prize purse for this event is over $17M. The winner will take home $3.15M.

PGA Championship Favorites:

This is certainly the best of the best. Scottie Scheffler has been the hottest golfer on the planet for a long time now. But, being the betting favorite is never an easy task. It is not something he is unfamiliar with though, and he is rarely rattled. Xander Schauffele has been a leaderboard consistency. He continues to find the top of the leaderboard, and finishes in the Top 10 more than anyone else on tour. McIlroy won this event twice, but the most recent came all the way back in 2014.  The good news for him, it was at this course. Koepka and Rahm are of course coming over from the LIV.

PGA Championship Contenders:

This is a fun list of guys. But, this is also a list of guys that can change pending on their play. These guys are all playing pretty solid golf right now. Morikawa won this event back in 2020, but it was held in his home state of California. The rest of the list is all looking for their first PGA Championship. Aberg has been the hot name, as he continues to play elite golf. DeChambeau comes over from the LIV, and has a style of play that could suit this course well. These are all guys you are not quite ready to count out.

PGA Championship Dark Horses:

This is a list of who’s who on the PGA Tour. These five guys are all really good, elite golfers. They are just outside of the Top 10 in the odds to win this event, but none of these would surprise us if they came away as the ultimate winner. This is another list of guys that have never won the PGA Championship, so it would take some work for them to find their way through this grueling four day event.

PGA Championship Underdogs:

The final list are declared underdogs, but all really good golfers, who have not been playing their best golf as of late. There are two guys on this list that have won the PGA Championship before. Jason Day won his only time back in 2015 in Wisconsin. Justin Thomas has won it twice. He won in 2017 at Quail Hollow, and also in 2022 at Southern Hills. It is going to take some better golf from this group of six for any of them to come away with a four day binge to win this event.

PGA Championship Betting Picks

Our betting picks for this event. We are going to take one guy from each of the four groups above. Our first is actually going to be Rory Mcllroy. He still has plenty of elite golf in him, and his hunger to win it for the third time will be strong. He is familiar and comfortable with the course, so betting him at +750 is worth it for us. Second, we will fall into the trap of betting on Ludvig Aberg. The whole golf world is crazy over him and his recent play. Many are declaring him the next great in the game. You have to win one major to win a rash of majors . Aberg at +2000 is our second bet. 

Third, we will take Viktor Hovland at +4500. We have seen Hovland get hot before. There is nothing that can cool him down when he does get going. If he can get off to a good start in round 1, look for him to catch fire and have a big weekend. 45/1 odds is pretty good value for such a talented golfer. Finally, we will take Justin Thomas. Somehow, someway, the veteran gets back on track and finds a way. 50/1 odds on a guy that knows how to play PGA Championship style golf!
