2024 The Genesis Invitational | 98th edition of the Los Angeles Open

Riviera Golf Course, Pacific Palisades, California
2023 Winner: Jon Rahm

Top 3 Golfers at Event

Scottie Scheffler
Currently the world’s top-ranked player, is the favored contender to emerge as the winner in the event, showing off odds of +650. The 27-year-old golfer recently showcased his ability with an impressive third-place finish, posting impressive scores of 66 in all three final rounds at Phoenix. Also, his strong performance at Pebble Beach, where he picked up a sixth-place finish, further shows Scheffler’s great talent and consistency, making him a player to watch in the upcoming event..

Rory McIlroy
A polarizing 34-year-old golfer and the second-ranked player world wide, brings big time star power to the event. Despite facing challenges at Pebble Beach with scores of 71 and 74 in the first two days, McIlroy seeks to rebound from the frustration of that event.

His recent win in Dubai, where he finished first at the end of January, adds to the intrigue surrounding his performance, and notes his ability. McIlroy enters the event with betting odds of +900, and golf fans are anticipating whether he can regain his groove on the course.

Viktor Hovland
The 4th ranked golfer in the rankings, holds the third-best odds to pick up the victory in this event. The 26-year-old Norwegian golfer left a major mark with a strong finish in the previous season and looks to kick off another impressive season.

Despite a 58th-place finish at Pebble Beach and a 22nd-place performance in Hawaii earlier in the month, Hovland is known widely for heating up as the season progresses. Golf fans can see Hovland’s gradual improvements as he seeks to make a big impact in the upcoming tournament.

2024 The Genesis Invitational Final Betting Pick | Writer’s Choice

We will go with three betting picks for this event:

  1. Scottie Scheffler +650 – great consistency and the tools to navigate through this course and take the four day event.

  2. Justin Thomas +1600 – nice start to the season for the veteran. He is poised to make a big time run, and this is the start of it.

  3. Jordan Spieth +2500 – Another veteran. We like his odds here, as they are the 11th best, but he is also playing solid golf to start the year.

Enjoy the event and best of luck with all your betting!

2023 The Genesis Invitational Open Odds, Picks, and PGA Betting Analysis

Previous Betting News

First played almost 100 years ago in 1926, the Genesis Invitational is among the oldest golf tournaments in the world and has previously been known as the Northern Trust Open and Nissan Open for sponsorship purposes. This year’s event, held at Riviera Golf in Los Angeles, is the second $20 million tournament in the PGA Tour season and has attracted a deep field consisting of nine of the top 10 golfers in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) – only LIV Golf’s Cameron Smith is absent. Tiger Woods is also participating at the Genesis, marking his first start in a non-major since October 2020. He’s +14000 to win. Check out MyBookie’s PGA betting odds for the Tournament to get more interesting.

The Genesis Invitational Open Betting Predictions and Favorites Odds | PGA Tour Lines

The Favorites

Rahm (+700)

Rahm, who is third in the OWGR, is having the best season of his career, and it’s not even close. He’s in contention every week and won The American Express and Tournament of Champions in January. He finished third at last week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open at 14-under. Overall, he has four victories in his last nine worldwide starts.

Rahm is a great pick to win this week, especially considering his improved play around the green, where he ranks 13th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained. Riviera has a lot of narrow fairways, but that shouldn’t be an issue for Rahm as his driving distance and accuracy is among the best on the Tour.

McIlroy (+900)

Rory McIlroy’s career resurgence as the face of the PGA Tour – both through his play and comments in regard to LIV – has continued into the 2023 season. The Northern Irishman may have had a forgettable week in Phoenix – he finished T32 at 1-under – but won the Dubai Desert Classic two weeks prior and began the season with a victory at the CJ Cup.

McIlroy hasn’t had much success at the Genesis in his career. He finished T10 at 10-under last year, but missed the cut in 2021.

Scheffler (+1000)

Scheffler is hoping to become the first golfer to win back-to-back PGA Tour events since Tony Finau last season. After a breakthrough season last year, Scheffler has firmly established himself as one of the best golfers on the planet with a well-rounded game. He won the Phoenix Open last week by two strokes and has finished T11 or better in six consecutive events.

Longshot of the Week – Adam Hadwin +10000

The launch of LIV Golf created opportunities for lesser-known talents to step up on the PGA Tour. One player who has taken advantage of such opportunities is Canadian Adam Hadwin, who’s paying out +10000 to win this weekend.

Hadwin was in contention during the first three rounds at the Phoenix Open but fell back to T10 after an even-par final round on Sunday. He has two top-20 finishes in his prior three events and finished T26 at last year’s Genesis, proving he can handle the conditions at Riviera. A $5 bet on Hadwin to win pays out $505 – that’s great value.

Outright Betting Odds

PGA Tour 2022 The Genesis Invitational Odds, Preview and Analysis

Previous Betting News

The 2022 Genesis Invitational is one of those events that you do not want to miss for golf. Only a handful of events on the year allow you to see just about every top 50 golfers in one tournament.

In addition, the Riviera Golf Course is one of the most difficult and beautiful golf courses in the world. Below you can see how the top-ranked golfers will compete so you can get ready to bet against their PGA Tour Odds.

Golf Betting Preview for The Genesis Invitational

Tournament Information

  • Date: Feb 17 to 20
  • Course: Riviera Golf Course
  • Watch this on: GOLF, CBS
  • Purse: $12,000,000

Betting Preview

This famous Riviera Country Club is located just around Los Angeles, California. Hosting the event will be none other than golfing legend Tiger Woods.

The field showcases 120 players, but even more appealing is that 35 out of 50 of those happen to be the best-ranked golfers in the world. This means you will get to see the exact top 10 in the rankings competing as well as other top names.

Odds for This Event

The top golfers in the game mean a loaded field and difficult decisions to make. The current top 10 golfers that MyBookie has to win are placed at:

  • JON RAHM +900
  • PATRICK CANTLAY +1200
  • JUSTIN THOMAS +1600
  • DUSTIN JOHNSON +1600
  • COLLIN MORIKAWA +1800
  • CAMERON SMITH +2000
  • RORY MCILROY +2200
  • XANDER SCHAUFFELE +2200
  • HIDEKI MATSUYAMA +2500
  • VIKTOR HOVLAND +2500

*odds is subject to changes

Golfers That Could Win

Justin Thomas (+1600) deserves some attention in this loaded field at Genesis. After placing eighth at the Waste Management Open, he had a shot to close the gap but his putter was just not having it this time. He has some mixed results here, as he almost won back in 2019, but has since missed two cuts.

Viktor Hovland (+2500) is a solid pick, even though his recent ranking dropped down to fourth. This could have accidentally created a great betting opportunity. He has a solid history here in strokes gained per round, but he just seems tired and not as electrifying playing week after week.

Collin Morikawa (+1800) is a great choice if you are expecting good ball striking and respectable numbers in strokes gained per round. But, his putter will be in question as it was last year here. At these odds, it would not hurt to throw something at him.

Potential Pick to Win

Patrick Cantlay (+1200) has the second best odds to win in the loaded field and has the best momentum coming into this event. After losing to a playoff in the Waste Management Open, his last four events have been fourth, ninth, T-4, and second.

In addition, his last 16 rounds of golf have been phenomenal. Just two rounds have been over 68, so this is video game-like material.

Cantlay’s game is perfect for this event and he is due for a victory any time now. The last two times he has played here, he has slightly improved from a 17th place finish to a 15th.

Let’s jump right into action so you can make your bets and cash in against their Golf odds.

PGA Tour 2021 Genesis Invitational Betting Preview

Play at the 2021 Genesis Invitational gets underway on Thursday, Feb. 18. This year’s event features an absolutely loaded field of top stars. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson stands alone as the prohibitive favorite at +600.  World No. 2 Jon Rahm and world No. 7 Rory McIlroy are next as identical +100 picks. World No. 3 Justin Thomas, world No. 4  Xander Schauffele and world No. 10 Bryson DeChambeau are next in line as identical +1200 picks to win.

2021 PGA Tour Genesis Invitational

  • When: Feb. 18-21
  • Where: Riviera Country Club — Pacific Palisades, California

Past Winners

  • 2020 – Adam Scott
  • 2019 J.B. Holmes
  • 2018 Bubba Watson
  • 2017 Dustin Johnson
  • 2016 Bubba Watson
  • 2015 James Hahn

World No. 22 Adam Scott is the reigning champ after claiming his second victory in this event last year.  A 14-time PGA Tour champion, Scott beat out Matt Kuchar, Scott Brown and Kang Sung-hoon all by two strokes to get the win a whopping 15 years after winning his first Genesis Invitational in 2005. Three-time winner Bubba Watson (2014, 2016, 2018) is in the field and Johnson won this event in 2017.

Now, let’s get to my top five golfers to win this weekend.

Odds to win 2021 Genesis Invitational

  • Dustin Johnson+600
  • Rory McIlroy +1100
  • Jon Rahm +1100
  • Justin Thomas +1200
  • Xander Schauffele +1200
  • Bryson DeChambeau +1200
  • Patrick Cantlay +1400
  • Brooks Koepka +2200
  • Tony Finau +2200
  • Collin Morikawa +2400
  • Viktor Hovland +2600
  • Adam Scott +2800
  • Jordan Spieth +3000
  • Joaquin Niemann +3200
  • Hideki Matsuyama +3300
  • Bubba Watson +3500
  • Scottie Scheffler +4500
  • Marc Leishman +5000
  • Max Homa +5000
  • Sergio Garcia +6000
  • Will Zalatoris +6000
  • Abraham Ancer +8000

No. 5 Bubba Watson

I know the now, 42-year-old Watson hasn’t recorded a win on the PGA Tour since 2018 when he won three times, but one of those victories that year came in this event. In six events this season, Watson has recorded three Top 25 finishes and a pair of Top 10 finishes. In his last three outings, Watson finished T5 in the QBE Shootout and T22 at the Phoenix Open two weeks ago. Not only is Watson is a three-time winner of this event, but he ranks an encouraging 23rd in driving distance (307.5), 60th in scoring average (70.6) and an impressive 12th in eagles (79.2). Watson is my long shot pick to get the win.

No. 4 Dustin Johnson

In four events this season, the world No. 1 has four Top 25 finishes, three Top 10 finishes one T2 finish and a commanding victory in last year’s Masters. The 36-year-old American ranks eighth in driving distance (314.4), fourth in greens in regulation (76.0%), 27th in eagles, 28th in birdie average (4.50) and first in scoring average (68.2). Johnson finished T11 in his last event at the Phoenix Open in mid January and his lack of recent activity is the only reason he’s my No. 4 pick to win this event.

No. 3 Brooks Koepka

12th in the official golf world rankings, the 30-year-old Koepka comes into this event fresh off a confidence-boosting win in the Phoenix Open, following three consecutive missed cuts. In seen events this season, Koepka has three Top 10 finishes. The three-time major winner ranks 21st in driving distance (308.5), 12th in eagles (79.2), 19th in scoring average (70.0) and fourth in sand save percentage (70.8%). Basically, Koepka is just too good to not contend. Plus, he’s hungry and focused after recently getting past some real struggles.

No. 2 Viktor Hovland

14th in the official golf world rankings, Viktor Hovland looks like  great pick to win this event. The 23-year-old native of Norway  ranks an impressive eighth in greens in regulation, 14th in birdie average (4.64) 13th in scoring average (69.8) and third in sand save percentage (72.0%). In seven events this season, Hovland has recorded five Top 25 finishes, two Top 10 finishes and one win. In his last three events alone, Hovland won the Mayakoba Classic in December before finishing T2 in the Farmers Insurance Open three weeks ago. Despite all of the big names in the field, I’ve got Hovland as my No. 2 pick to win.

No. 1 Joaquin Niemann

28th in the official golf world rankings, 22-year-old Chilean Joaquin Niemann looks fantastic coming into this event. In eight events this season, Niemann has recorded a stunning seven top 27 finishes and three top 10 finishes. More importantly, Niemann has finished 2 and T2 in his last two outings at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and Sony Hawaii Open last month. Niemann ranks 13th in driving distance (312.0), 12th in greens in regulation, a stellar second in birdie average (5.09) and fifth in scoring average (69.3). I won’t be surprised to see Niemann end up hoisting the hardware at the 2021 Genesis Open and neither should you!

Which golfer has the best shot of winning The Genesis Invitational? Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, or Tiger Woods?

Rory, Justin, and Jon deserve favoritism. Last year, Rory McIlroy shot a -11 while Justin Thomas shot a -13. The 2019 Genesis Invitational winner shot a -14. It means Thomas was a stroke off last year’s victor. McIlroy was 3 strokes off.

Rahm shot a -7. Although the 7 strokes seem like a lot, the Spanish player heads into this week’s tournament on fire. Rahm finished second at the Farmers Insurance Open. He finished ninth in his last tournament played, the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

But although McIlroy, Thomas, and Rahm have big shots to win this week, the 2 players to consider among the favorites are DJ and Tiger. Woods doesn’t have a great history playing at Riviera Country Club. Tiger has teed up at Riviera more times without winning than any other course on the Tour. That makes Woods a play against.

Like Rahm, Dustin Johnson shot a -7 in 2019 The Genesis Invitational. DJ bombed at Pebble Beach last week, shooting a -3 and finishing thirty-second. But he can turn it around here. Back DJ unless you want to go super-chalky. In that case, throw a dart among Rory, Justin, and Jon.

Which golfers between +2000 to +4000 odds have the best chances of winning the Genesis Invitational?

Xander Schauffele shot a -6 at this tournament last year. He can play well enough to make some noise on Sunday. That’s all you ask for betting options at +2000 or higher. Xander is a decent play at the odds.

But the best play in this odds category is Marc Leishman. At +4000, Leishman is a huge overlay. He won the Farmers Insurance Open in his last tournament played. Also, he shot a -11 at the Genesis Invitational last year.

What are the two best golfers to consider backing at odds of +5000 to +6000?

In 2019, Paul Casey shot a -4 in this. He could improve enough to give you a thrill at +5000. Matt Kuchar shot a -4 in this event last year. He has as good of a shot as any +6000 or higher-odds golfer. So, if you’re looking for a huge longshot, Kuchar’s the man.

Check out 4 Top PGA Tournament Matchups for 2020 The Genesis Invitational

  • Tiger Woods -105
  • Patrick Cantlay -115

Tiger shouldn’t win, but we must figure he’s determined to play well. After all, Woods has played at Riviera Country Club since he was 16-years-old. Give Tiger a shot against Cantlay.

  • Dustin Johnson -130
  • Tiger Woods +110

Dustin Johnson should bounce back after the strange performance at Pebble Beach. DJ offers low odds to beat Tiger. He’s still the pick. Expect Dustin to do just enough to beat Tiger in the head-to-head this week.

  • Phil Mickelson -105
  • Jordan Spieth -115

Both Lefty and Jordan played much better than anyone expected at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Mickelson had a chance to overtake Nick Taylor for the win. Phil shot a -2 while Jordan shot a +1 at the 2019 Genesis Invitational. That makes Lefty the play.

  • Xander Schauffele -130
  • Brooks Koepka +110

Koepka missed the cut at the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. He withdrew from the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges. Both tournaments happened last October. We’ve got to believe one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour has gotten it together. Or, else Brooks wouldn’t have entered for this tournament. Take the above even money odds on Koepka to beat Xander.
