Rory McIlroy is the betting favorite heading into the week with +750 odds. This would be a great time for McIlroy to start playing well as he heads to Augusta next week. McIlroy needs the green jacket to complete the career grand slam, and as the years go by, he does not get any older.

If it is any consolation to McIlroy, Tiger Woods won The Masters in his 40s, as did Jack Nicklaus. It can be done, but it is never an easy task to accomplish.

McIlroy comes in at #9 in the World Golf Rankings this week. He has played in five events this season with two top-10 finishes. McIlroy’s last appearance came at The Players Championship, where he finished tied for thirty-third.

Jordan Spieth +1400

Former Masters Champion Jordan Spieth is in the field this week. Spieth fell two spots in the most recent rankings, from 15 to 17. The Texas native and the defending champion at The Valero Texas Open, Spieth, is also looking to get his game back on track this week.

It has been a bumpy ride for Spieth since his breakout season in 2015. He has struggled with his tempo and swing, which he continues to make an effort to get back to where he once was. Spieth was so close to winning a second green jacket before his back-nine collapse in 2016.

In the last five seasons, Spieth only has one win, and that came at this tournament last season. Can Spieth find his old self this week and repeat as the champion in San Antonio?

Hideki Matsuyama +1400

Hideki Matsuyama will be a busy man this week as he attempts to play golf and also prepare for next week and his title defense at Augusta National. Not only does he have to worry about playing golf for the next two weeks, but Matsuyama also is trying to prepare for all the pre-tournament festivities.

From the Champions Dinner to the Par-3 Contest and then preparing for the tournament, the Valero Texas Open may be the least of his worries this week. In this tournament last year, Matsuyama finished tied for the thirtieth.

Corey Conners +1800

Not very often do we see stories like Corey Conners from 2019. It took a Monday qualifier win to get into the field in 2019 for Conners. By the facial expression of his wife at the end of the week, it was shocking to see him as the champion. That’s right; Conners won the tournament after having to qualify to get in.

Conners is coming off a great week at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play event, where he finished third after beating Dustin Johnson in the third and fourth place match. Conners’ one and only career win came from TPC San Antonio in 2019. Could we see the magic happen again this week?
