St. Jude Classic Odds 2017 Best Bets & Sleeper Picks

While a lot of golf fans will be looking ahead to the US Open next weekend, let’s not forget that we have one more tournament on tap before the next major begins. The tournament in question is the FedEx St. Jude’s Classic, which will be held at the TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tennessee. It is perhaps not the strongest field of players that we have seen at a PGA event this year, but there are still going to be 8 players from the top 30 playing, so it’s also not an even filled with scrubs.

This tournament has proven to be a particularly tough one to handicap, as it’s often a lesser known player that win it. The last 3 winners at this event were Daniel Berger, Fabian Gomez, and Ben Crane, none of whom are what you would call household names. There is a chance to make some good money here, so let’s take a look at some of the best bets and potential sleeper picks.

St. Jude’s Classic Favorites

This may be a tournament that no-on really wants to win, as no player has ever won the event the week before the US Open and then gone on to win the major. With $1.125 million on offer for the winner of this one, though, I’m sure that every player here will be trying to land that prize. It is Rickie Fowler (+650) who has opened as the favorite for this one, which is no real surprise given that he tied for 2nd in his last event at the Memorial. Fowler has been playing incredibly well this season, and is certainly the pick of this bunch. There are certainly plenty of people saying that this is his tournament to lose, but strange things happen out on the course. One player well worth looking at is Brooks Koepka (+1000), as he has a proven track record at this event, finishing tied for 2nd last year. Koepka is a bit of a nearly man on the PGA Tour, as his solid play does not translate to wins. He might change that this weekend. Another good value bet is Adam Scott (+1000). Admittedly, he has not been playing his best golf this season, but when he is on his game, he is always tough to beat. This may be a breakout tournament for him. St. Jude’s Sleeper Picks

There are a couple of golfers in this group who I believe are well worth taking a look at given their juicy odds. Daniel Berger (+2500) is worth a look, simply because he is the defending champion at this event. He obviously likes this course, and will be going all out to defend the crown. Another good pick here is Ryan Palmer (+3800), as this is another guy who seems to like playing in Memphis. He has had a 3rd and 4th place finish here in previous visits, and is also in a good run of form right now, finishing in the top 11 in 3 of his last 5 starts.
