As Week 12 of the MLB season approaches, America’s pastime heats up. Star pitchers can steal the show, making them a focal point for fans and bettors alike. But who are the aces you should be following, and what MLB pitcher prop bets might offer value?
2024 MLB | 155th edition of professional baseball in the United States
Gray gets the nod for the Cardinals on Monday in Miami, and then will likely pitch the game Sunday in Birmingham against the Giants.
The right hander has been pretty strong in his first season with St. Louis.
He is 8-4 on the season, with an ERA of just over 3.00.
Gray has thrown 68.2 innings, and struck out 91 batters.
That is also in just 12 starts, as he was banged up to start the season.
The Marlins and Giants are two pitcher friendly teams to face this week.
Gray should be a top choice to keep an eye on.
Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates
We had Skenes on this list last week, and they moved his Sunday start in Colorado back to Monday at home.
Now, he gets divisional rival Cincinnati.
Over the weekend, if he stays on track, he will get Tampa Bay at home.
Right now, it may not matter who Skenes is facing.
He has been brilliant with just 9 runs allowed in 33.1 innings so far.
He was sharp in his outing last Tuesday against the Cardinals, despite coming away with a no decision.
Skenes is a good one to follow this week.
Max Fried, Atlanta Braves
The Braves have started to play a little better baseball.
On Monday, he will get the Detroit Tigers.
If he stays on track, he will get a Sunday game at the Yankees.
Not an easy task, but the lefthander seems to be up for the test.
Fried is 6-3 on the season and holds a 3.20 earned run average.
He has thrown 78.2 innings, and struck out 70 so far this season.
In 13 starts, Fried has allowed 6 homeruns, but also has two complete games.
Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies
He will get a test when he takes on a Padres team that knows how to hit.
Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr and company are going to be ready to swing.
Nola is 12 innings shy of 100 on the season, and has 78 strikeouts to just 24 walks.
Nola has allowed 12 homeruns on the season, so if he can keep the ball in the park, he seems to be having pretty good success.
Nola will likely just have the one start this week.
Tanner Houck, Boston Red Sox
When talking about young starting pitchers, it’s foolish to not bring up Tanner Houck.
He has been brilliant this season.
Houck has made 14 starts, and is 7-5 on the season.
Houck has an ERA of just 2.08 on the season.
In his 14 starts, he has thrown 91 innings, and struck out 89 batters.
He will get a chance to take on Toronto on the road on Tuesday.
That should be his only start, but got to like his chances against a boom or bust Toronto offense.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
