It’s the start of another new week in the MLB, with the majority of the divisional races still very tight at the moment

While this is not altogether surprising given where we are in the season, we have grown accustomed to seeing a couple of teams storm out of the gate to take a big early lead, but that isn’t really happening at the moment. This has to be seen as a good thing for those of us who like to see a lot of meaningful series, and you have to say that we have several of those coming our way this week. As we do every Monday, let’s now look ahead and pick out the series that we love this week, picking a couple in the early part of the week and a couple more heading into the weekend.
Boston Red Sox at Cleveland Guardians
Tuesday, April 23, 6:10 PM, NESN | Pitchers: Tanner Houck vs Ben Lively
Wednesday, April 24, 6:10 PM, NESN | Pitchers: Undecided vs Carlos Carrasco
Thursday, April 25, 1:10 PM, NESN | Pitchers: Brayan Bello vs Triston McKenzie
The feeling was that this might be something of a poor season for the Boston Red Sox in what figures to be a tough East Division. While things might still go south, you have to say that the Red Sox are more than holding their own. They closed out last week by winning 3 in a row and are now just 2 ½ games out of the lead. They have been great on the road, going 10-3, but will have a tough task ahead of them with a road trip to Cleveland to face a Guardians team that is 3 games clear at the top of the Central with a 16-6 record. This should be a fun one to watch.

Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers
Tuesday, April 23, 8:05 PM | Pitchers: Logan Gilbert vs Dane Dunning
Wednesday, April 24, 8:05 PM | Pitchers: Bryce Miller vs Jon Gray
Thursday, April 25, 2:35 PM | Pitchers: Luis Castillo vs Andrew Heaney
The AL West has not been very good to start the season, with the Texas Rangers the only team above .500 at this point, and only just, going 12-11. That is enough to have them on top of the West, but they have the Seattle Mariners sitting right on their heels with an 11-11 record. Texas is playing .500 ball in their own building, while the Mariners are a game below that mark in road games. Seattle, though, has won 7 of their last 10, so perhaps they have momentum on their side.

Saturday, April 27, 8:40 PM | Pitchers: Ranger Suarez vs Dylan Cease
Sunday, April 28, 4:10 PM | Pitchers: Cristopher Sanchez vs Michael King
The general consensus before the start of the season was that the NL East was the Atlanta Braves division to lose. Everyone seemed to forget about the Phillies, but they are jogging some memories in the early going. The Phillies have won 6 in a row to get within a game of the lead held by Atlanta. They are 4-2 in road games. In a similar storyline, the Padres are holding their own in a division that was supposed to be dominated by the Dodgers, with San Diego just 1 game back. They are, though, just 6-8 at home.
