Week 9: Monday, May 277th – Sunday, June 2nd, 2024

Lance Lynn, St. Louis Cardinals

The right hander for the Cardinals gets to start the week with a three game series at the Cincinnati Reds. The Cardinals have been playing solid baseball, and trying to make a move into the National League Central division standings. Lynn has thrown 51.1 innings this season, and struck out 48 batters. He will get his first shot on Monday, and then finish the week in a really tough spot.

Lynn has been known to step up to the challenge, so we are excited to see him face off against the Phillies on Sunday.

Bryce Miller, Seattle Mariners

The youngster will get the start on Monday against Houston. The Astros have hit okay this season, but are still under .500. It’s still time for the Mariners to get Houston before they got hot.

Look for Miller to use his wipe out pitch early and often in this game. He has 56 strikeouts in more than 58 innings thrown. His second start of the week should be over the weekend. He will remain at home, and take on a much lighter hitting Los Angeles Angels team.

We like Miller this week!

Gavin Stone, Los Angeles Dodgers

Gavin Stone gets the nod against the Mets on Monday. He will be going against them in the afternoon on Memorial Day. Stone is 4-2, with a 3.60 earned run average. He has not been a massive strikeout guy, but he’s getting guys out. Look for him to throw a gem in this one with 6+ innings.

Stone then will come home and host the Colorado Rockies over the weekend. Dodgers against Rockies?

You got to like the home team, and the home pitcher in this one. Take Stone this week!

Jared Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates

The 22 year old from California will be in for a test on Tuesday, as he faces off against Tarik Skubal. Detroit’s offense is not scary, but Skubal on the other side is. Jones is 3-4 on the season, but sits with a 3.05 earned run average. The rookie of the year candidate has struck out 68 batters over 59 innings.

The Pirates have Monday and Thursday off, so it is likely Jones won’t go a second time. But, they do get Toronto on the road on Sunday, so if they want him on his normal rest, that would be his second outing.

Kevin Gausman, Toronto Blue Jays

We are willing Kevin Gausman to come back to life this season. He will make his 10th start of the season on Tuesday against the light hitting Chicago White Sox. Gausman is 3-3 on the season, with a 4.47 earned run average. He has 53 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. This is a great matchup for him. Over the weekend, Gausman should then get the nod against Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The Pirates have not been known as a heavy hitting squad. Look for a big bounce back week from Gausman.

MLB Odds and Picks: Pitchers to Back After Two Months of Action

Previous Betting News

The new week in the MLB has already begun, but there are a ton of games till to come in Week 9, which means that it’s time to start talking about the pitchers who look like a good bet over the next few days. Those of you who routinely wager on baseball through the course of the season will be well aware of the importance of a good starting pitcher, especially in the games where there might seem to be a bit of a mismatch between the two starters. What we are looking at here are the pitchers who are in form and who might just help their team to a win this coming week, so let’s get to check out the MLB betting analysis.

MLB Pitchers to Back after Week 8 of the season | MLB Lines by MyBookie

Zac Gallen
Arizona Diamondbacks

There was a feeling that the LA Dodgers might well run away with the NL West again this season, but the Diamondbacks are doing a good job of hanging in there. They are just a game and a half out of the lead and are in a series with the Colorado Rockies to start the week. Tuesday night will see Zac Gallen take the mound, which should be good news for the D-Backs. Gallen is 6-2 this season with an ERA of 2.97, and while he is 0-1 in his last 2 starts, I think we will see him bounce back with a big performance next time out.

George Kirby
Seattle Mariners

After going on a run where he picked up the win in 5 of 6 starts, Kirby has cooled off over the last 2 games, although one of those Ls came in a 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves, where Kirby pitched a solid 7 innings. His last start was a bit of a nightmare, and his next start will come against the surging New York Yankees. Despite all of that, he has been mostly very good this season, so I think he is due for an uptick and another solid outing.

Framber Valdez
Houston Astros

The start of the season for Valdez was a little up and down, which was essentially the case for the Astros in general, but he has settled into a groove, as has the rest of the team. The Astros have won each of the last 4 games in which Framber has started, with the pitcher picking up the W in 3 of those games. He is now 5-4 on the season and has a very respectable 2.38 ERA. Valdez is set to start versus the Angels on Thursday, and I think he will keep the good times rolling with another strong outing.

Zack Wheeler
Philadelphia Phillies

You could look at Wheeler, see that he is 4-4 on the season, and automatically dismiss him, but I think that might be a mistake. The issue that he has is that he is getting very little in the way of run support from his team when he starts. That was seen in his last start, which came against the Atlanta Braves, where he pitched an absolute gem on his way to a 2-1 win for the Phillies. The Phillies have delivered just 10 runs in his last 4 starts, but Wheeler has been solid throughout. At some point, they are going to deliver the goods for him.

MLB Odds and Picks: Pitchers to Avoid After Two Months of Action

Previous Betting News

We are now 8 weeks into the MLB season and the divisions are beginning to take shape, although we all know that things can change when you have a season that runs this long. Every player will go through a series of ups and downs over the course of a season, so blindly picking the same pitchers in every game will probably not work out that well for you. This is why we create a shortlist of pitchers to sit or start each week, in hopes that we can jump on those hot and cold trends to find pitchers to either start or sit. We have our start list already in place, so now let’s look at the MLB betting analysis for a few pitchers we don’t have a ton of confidence in for Week 9.

MLB Pitchers to Avoid after Week 8 of the season | MLB Lines by MyBookie

Ryan Weathers
San Diego Padres

The general consensus was that the San Diego Padres might well be the team to push the LA Dodgers in the NL West this season, but things are not playing out that way at the moment. The Padres are 5 games below .500 after 8 weeks and are having problems getting runs home. That does not help their pitching staff, with Weathers in particular having some issues. He is sitting at 1-3 on the season with an ERA of 4.34. The Padres have lost 4 of the last 5 games that he has started and could be in trouble again on Tuesday night.

Julio Teheran
Milwaukee Brewers

You have to feel a certain level of sympathy for the Brewers, as they are having some serious injury issues in the early part of the season. Those issues have forced them to go out and recruit, with Julio Teheran the latest to join the ball club. While he pitched 5 solid innings, giving up just 1 earned run, in his first start, I’m not so sure that he is a long-term solution for the Brewers. He especially might have some issues with the hard-hitting Toronto Blue Jays, who he will start against on Wednesday night.

Taijuan Walker
Philadelphia Philles

Slowly but surely, the Phillies are losing ground to the Atlanta Braves at the top of the NL East and are now 4 games below .500. That gap could grow a little larger when they head to New York to face the Mets for a series this week. Thursday night will see Taijuan Walker take the mound for the Phillies. He comes in with a respectable 4-2 record, although his 5.57 ERA leaves a little to be desired. That ERA is actually at 6.75 in road games this season, which is why I think he might be one to sit this week.

Roansy Contreras
Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates were one of the surprise teams in the opening weeks of the season, but we all wondered if they would be able to maintain that early pace. They have not, and they are now 2 games below .500 and slipping down the standings. The team as a whole has gone cold, but perhaps none colder than Contreras, who has now failed to pick up a win in his last 5 starts, going 0-3 in that stretch. He only lasted 2 innings in his last outing and looks to be losing confidence with each progressive trip to the mound.
