The NASCAR Cup Series season is long, which is why it is so tough for any driver to be great from start to finish.
There tends to be ebbs and flows to the season for every driver, which also means that we see different people occupy the top spot in the driver standings throughout the year.

My Analysis
At the end of the day, though, the regular season goal is the same for everyone, which is to finish in the top 16 and make it to the playoffs. Once in, a win or two there can take a driver from the middle of the pack all the way to the top in a heartbeat. It’s still too early to talk about the playoffs, so let’s instead focus on the upcoming race at Darlington, which is the Goodyear 400. This one goes off on Saturday at 3 PM EST, so let’s take a look at the current Cup Series favorites.
^Kyle Larson NASCAR Pick +390
If seasons are indeed made up of ebbs and flows, then you have to say that Larson is in full flow at the moment. The big question now is whether he can maintain this current form, which is easier said than done. He finished 2nd in Darlington in his championship winning season, but in the 2 years since, he has been a non-factor in this race.
^Denny Hamlin NASCAR Pick +430
Hamlin is another one who seems to be getting hot at the moment, although he has been a little up and down all year. For a while, it seemed to be either win or bust for Hamlin, who has picked up no less than 3 victories already this season. He seems to be settling into a groove now, though, with a win and a 5th place run over his last 2 races. Those off days have had an impact on his point total, but he is still sitting 4th overall. Hamlin has been outside the top 10 in his last 2 attempts at this race, but I think he breaks back into it this weekend.
^Martin Truex Jr. NASCAR Pick +660
We are seeing a common theme with the drivers who are among the favorites for this weekend’s race, as Truex Jr. has also been solid over the past couple of weeks, posting a pair of top 5 finishes. Truex Jr. is staying close to Larson at the top and is currently sitting 2nd overall, which might well change if he can pick up his first win of the season this Sunday in Darlington. His last win on this track came in 2021 and he has been off the pace in the last couple of seasons. He might get back into the top 10 this weekend.
^Tyler Reddick NASCAR Pick +770
Reddick is currently sitting 5th in the driver standings, but he has been somewhat unpredictable to this point in the season, especially in the opening few weeks, when he really struggled. He has picked up a win this year, but he has now had back-to back races outside the top 20. He has, though, landed on the podium in 3 of his last 4 runs in Darlington, so perhaps that bad run ends this weekend.
