Heat vs Cavaliers Odds, NBA Playoffs Lines and MyBookie’s Prediction for Game 2

Heat vs Cavaliers Odds: The eighth-seeded Miami Heat weren’t much competition for the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference playoff series. Will anything change on Wednesday night in Game 2? The Cavs are again double-digit home favorites on the NBA odds.

Following its 121-100 home win over Miami in Game 1, the Cavaliers are now -4000 on the series line and the Heat +1500. A Cleveland sweep is +125 and that would be ideal for the Cavs to get as much time to rest ahead of the next round against either No. 4 seed Indiana or No. 5 Milwaukee.

Spread/Total Subject to Change: Cavaliers -12 (total 212)
Playoff Expert Prediction: Cavaliers 117, Heat 107

NBA Moneylines subject to Change: Cleveland -721 / Miami +488

However, I think Cleveland drops one game in Miami, so we like the Cavs in five at +180. The longest shot on the board is the Heat winning the next four at +9000. Not happening.

Miami vs Cleveland Series

Somehow, this is the first-ever playoff series between the teams after the Cavs won the regular-season series 2-1. It is the 3rd-straight postseason appearance by the Cavs and 25th appearance in team history.

Cleveland finished the regular season with a 36-7 record against teams that had a winning percentage of .500 or worse (Miami was 35-47 this season) and now you can make that record 37-7.

Updated Odds to Win the East

Cleveland is a +215 second favorite behind Boston, with those two likely on a collision course in the conference finals.

Miami had faced every other current East team in the postseason other than Cleveland before this series. Of course, the Heat had to win two games in the East Play-In as the No. 10 seed to get here – the first No. 10 seed to advance.

It’s Miami’s sixth-straight postseason appearance, tying for the longest streak in team history. The Heat are +50000 to win the East. Save your money.

Adebayo’s Big Game Not Enough For Heat

You aren’t winning many playoff games scoring only 100 points in this era, as the Heat did in the 21-point road loss in Game 1.

Bam Adebayo

Big man Adebayo played very well in the loss with 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals – coming just shy of his 32nd career playoff double-double.

Adebayo is tied with LeBron James for the most in franchise playoff history. Adebayo has now scored in double-figures 61 times in the postseason, tying the third-most in team history.

Donovan Mitchell

“We got to be the hardest playing team,” Mitchell said. “They’re a really good and talented team. They can score the ball with the best of them, so we got to be the hardest playing team. That’s what we got to do.”

The Heat have won 33 playoff series all-time, recording a .600 winning percentage (33-22), the third-highest winning percentage in history.

Cavaliers Brealy Broke Sweat In Opener

Even after a week off between the end of the regular season and playoffs, Cleveland showed little signs of rust in its Game 1 rout. The Cavs scored 121 points on 51.1 percent shooting from the field and 18-of-43 (41.9 percent) shooting on three-pointers, while committing just eight turnovers in Game 1.

Darius Garland

“We go as he goes, so whenever he’s aggressive, everybody else feels aggressive,” Cavs All-Star point guard Darius Garland said of Mitchell “Especially when he gets into the paint, everybody [on the defense is] going to load to the ball, so that’s when the spray outs come, and that’s when our shooters are getting some wide-open catch and shoots. And that’s when everybody’s confidence gets going and shots start falling for us.”

The Heat’s only lead of the night came midway through the first quarter, a brief two-point advantage. But Cleveland bounced back to take a seven-point edge at intermission and led by double-figures through most of the fourth quarter – outscoring Miami 23-10 to close the game.

What should really concern Miami coach Erik Spoelstra is that All-Star big man Evan Mobley had a quiet game for Cleveland, with just nine points on 4-for-10 shooting with seven rebounds. He and Jarrett Allen totaled 21 points as the Cleveland backcourt dominated.

Heat vs Cavaliers Expert Prediction

In Game 1, Cleveland achieved 51 percent shooting overall, 42 percent from three, and 81 percent from the free-throw line, hitting 18 triples, while committing only eight turnovers, with Mitchell, Garland, and Jerome combining for four.

Erik Spoelstra

“You get to the playoffs, there are going to be dynamic offensive teams,” Spoelstra said. “And they have guys that drive and break you down off the dribble, and they can also just shoot pull-up threes, and they’re very good spot-up shooters, as well. So that’s the task, and it’s up to us to figure out how to beat that.”

By comparison, Miami finished with only five shot attempts in the restricted area overall, with Cleveland’s defense pushing the Heat into 44 combined upper paint and mid-range jumpers.

The Heat had one of their best shooting nights of the season — hitting 48.8% from the field and 41.9% from three — and still couldn’t crack 101 points against Cleveland.

Tyler Herro

The Heat have just one consistent creator in Herro, who found himself increasingly smothered by the Cavs’ defense as the game progressed.

Every time Herro touched the ball in the second half, multiple defenders collapsed on him, forcing difficult shots and taking away passing lanes.

Veteran guard Terry Rozier is largely out of the Heat‘s rotation, but he still wound up on the injury report for Wednesday’s Game 2.

Rozier suffered a left ankle sprain during an optional workout. Veteran center Kevin Love has been sidelined since March 21 for personal reasons and remains away from the team. Cavaliers 117, Heat 107.
