7 Must-Have Tips To Mastering March Madness Betting

Written by on March 7, 2017

Whether you’re a ‘hard core’ college basketball fanatic or more of a casual betting enthusiast, you need some expert betting advice if you want to maximize your chances for success when betting on the quickly approaching March Madness national championship tournament. With that said, let’s get started with the latest March Madness predictions.

7 Must-Have Tips To Mastering March Madness Betting

Road Warriors

Teams that have winning road records during the regular season make for great teams to back during March Madness since every game is essentially a road contest. Teams that packed their schedules with a ton of home games and won a lot of games because of it, aren’t nearly as dangerous when they’re on the road and half of the fans are rooting for the other team.

Star Power

While college hoops fans and sports fans in general love an emotional ‘Cinderella’ story, the fact of the matter is that teams with ‘star power’ are more likely to advance than teams that are playing above their ‘normal’ level of play or overall roster talent level. It’s no coincidence that teams with star players are generally the ones hoisting the national championship trophy. If you don’t believe me, go look at the past championship winners and you’ll find at least one NBA talent leading the charge.

The Hot Stay Hot

Teams that get hot prior to the end of the regular season or in their respective conference tournaments have a much better chance of advancing than teams that struggled to find consistency down the stretch. My Way or the Highway

If you don’t know, coaching is absolutely crucial to a team’s on-court success. Great coaches tend to make smart decision in tight ballgames and that can be the difference between winning and losing in March.

Back a First Four Winner to Advance

Ever since 2011, when the NCAA expanded its annual tournament to a 68-team field, at least one first-four at-large winner has reached either the Round of 32 or the Sweet 16.

No. 1’s Advance

If you didn’t know, a No. 16 seed has never knocked off a No. 1 seed since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985. 16 seeds have gone 0-124 against No. 1 seeds during that time. Of course, there have been some close calls along the way, but still, no upsets! Just 15 games between No. 1 seeds and No. 16 seeds has been decided by single digits. So there’s a strong possibility that your favorite No. 1 seed will cash in against the spread in its opener, even as a double-digit favorite.

Pick at No. 1 or a No. 2 seed to Fall Early

One of the top two seeds in each region is almost a lock to fail to reach the Sweet 16. At least two of the top two seeded teams in each region have failed to reach the Sweet 16 in each of the last six years. The last time every No. 1 and No. 2 seed made it to the second weekend was way back in 2009.
