NCAAF 2021 National Championship Betting Update: Top 5 Colleges in the Nation

The conclusion of the 2021 NCAA football regular season has almost been reached. The Georgia Bulldogs have spent the past few weeks leading the national rankings with an undefeated record, while the Cincinnati Bearcats represent the non-Power Five Conference schools by making a strong case for one of the four playoff spots.

Ohio State and Alabama are the other two teams in the top four, while Notre Dame and Michigan are next. Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Baylor, and Oklahoma fill out the top-10 from there and will all need to make major statements over the next couple of weeks if they want to reach the coveted playoff.

So, with time running out in the season, here is what to look for from the top college football teams and their odds of winning the National Championship.

Updated College Football 2021 Title Odds

#1 Georgia Bulldogs (-153)

This season, Georgia has been nothing short of dominant, jumping out to an 11-0 record while allowing just 7.5 points per game. Their greatest challenge of the season could come in the Southeastern Conference Championship game. Still, it is easy to understand why they are the championship favorites with one of the best defenses ever to grace college football. Still, negative odds for one team versus the field instead of another outright competitor is a risk.

#2 Ohio State Buckeyes (+275)

While many would expect to find the Alabama Crimson Tide second in the championship odds, that spot belongs to the Buckeyes of Ohio State, they are 10-1 and have won nine straight games— three of which were against ranked teams— since losing to Oregon in the second week. Quarterback C.J. Stroud is one of the favorites for the Heisman trophy, and with an elite complement of receivers, a strong ground game, and a defense to match, Ohio State is the total package.

#3 Alabama Crimson Tide (+300)

The third and final team in the top tier of championship contenders is Alabama, a shoo-in for a playoff spot since the NCAA moved to this format. One problem that could plague the Tide is that they already have a loss on their record, and if they face Georgia in the SEC Championship and end up losing, there could be a case that they do not belong in the final top-four. Of course, the way around this is to win the SEC title, but that is a big ask, even for a team loaded with first-round talent.

#4 Cincinnati Bearcats (+3200)

There is a noticeable drop-off between Cincinnati and the three teams currently ranked above them, which reflects the disparity in talent between the programs. What Luke Fickell built-in Cincinnati is incredible, and he has put himself and his program on the map. Still, because of how easy their schedule has been, playing (and beating) only one ranked squad this season, combined with the fact that they are not in a Power Five conference, it is not guaranteed that they will even reach the playoff despite having an undefeated record.

#5 Michigan Wolverines (+3500)

The final team in the top-five championship odds is the sixth-ranked team in America, the Michigan Wolverines. Like Alabama, Michigan has a massive challenge in front of them in Ohio State, who just opened up a 49-0 gap on #7 Michigan State by halftime last weekend. Michigan cuts its teeth on the defensive side of the football and does not cope well with shootouts, and, like Cincinnati, they have only faced one ranked team this season, who they lost to.
