NFL 2021 Season: New York Jets at Miami Betting Analysis

NFL 2021 Season: New York Jets at Miami Betting Analysis

Things can change quickly in the world of the National Football League. Just a few weeks ago, the Miami Dolphins were 1-7 and were one of the biggest disappointments in the league. Fast forward to Week 15, and now the Dolphins have won five straight games and are back in the hunt for a playoff spot.

The same can’t be said for the New York Jets. They’ve lost two straight, are sitting at the bottom of the AFC East at 3-10, and are basically playing the season out to get a better draft pick. The Jets and the Dolphins will meet on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in an AFC East showdown. Let’s see how both teams arrive to this Jets versus Dolphins matchup so you can get all set to bet against their NFL odds.

NFL Betting Preview for New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins

New York Jets Analysis

Things haven’t gone the way that first-year head coach Robert Saleh had hoped they would go. Saleh, known as one of the best defensive minds in football, hasn’t been able to get the Jets defense in a position to stop anyone. New York is giving up an average of 32 points per game, making them one of the worst defenses in the league.

On the offensive side of the ball, things aren’t much better. The Jets are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the AFC, only sitting behind the dismal Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars. Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson has battled injuries, turnovers, and typical rookie quarterback mistakes. It hasn’t helped that the Jets have lacked a running game, and his top two receivers are now out for the season due to injuries.

At this point, the Jets are playing for a higher spot in the upcoming draft. They’ve been eliminated from playoff contention, and they just want to get to the end. They have multiple first-round picks in the upcoming draft, and they’ll be sure to upgrade numerous positions in the draft and through free agency.

Miami Dolphins Analysis

As we stated earlier, the Dolphins are on a five-game winning streak, have gotten back into the playoff hunt, and now they get to play the lowly Jets, hoping to make it six straight. Even though Miami hasn’t run into very many tough teams during their winning streak, it has built up confidence in the team, especially for second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Many had been criticizing Tagovailoa for his poor play early in the season. It didn’t help his cause that he was drafted before superstar Justin Herbert either. The Dolphins offense has played better, as the schemes have been tailored to Tagovailoa’s strong suits. The emergence of rookie wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has helped the offense as well. COVID has hit the Dolphins backfield hard, so we’re not sure who will be behind Tua in the backfield this weekend. It looks like Myles Gaskin should be cleared to play, but his status has yet to be announced.

Defensively, the Dolphins were a huge disappointment to start the season. Many felt that they would be one of the best defenses in the league, but that didn’t come to fruition early on. Over their last five games, the defense is giving up an average of 11 points per game, and they’ve outscored their opponents by 61 points. If their defense can continue to play well, and the offense doesn’t make mistakes, the Dolphins could be a playoff team.

Prediction

Miami is an 8.5-point favorite in this one. With the way both teams have been playing, we won’t hesitate in telling you to take the Miami Dolphins. They’ll win this one 28-14, extending their winning streak in the process.
