Writer’s Key Picks on Winning the 2025 AFC Championship
Winner: Baltimore Ravens +320
Surprised? Don’t be. The Ravens had massive issues with their defense earlier in the season but like the Rams and Buccaneers in the NFC, Baltimore’s D has picked it up big time in the past month.
Before getting to the D, no team has as big of a rushing and passing punch as the Ravens do with Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson.
Henry dominates defenses on the ground while Lamar destroys them through the air.
Although Allen is almost a lock to win the MVP, it’s sure difficult to go against Jackson with his 3,955 yards, 39 TDs and just 4 interceptions.
Lamar has also rushed for 852 yards and 4 TDs this season.
Now, we can discuss the D.
The Ravens have allowed a single team, the Eagles, to score 20 or more points in their last 5 games.
Houston got a safety in a home loss to Baltimore in NFL Week 17.
First AFC Pick: Ravens +320
Second: Kansas City Chiefs +150
Going against the Chiefs is tough.
It’s almost impossible because Kansas City finds ways to win but the Chiefs are trying accomplish something rare in the NFL, a three peat conference championship.
For sure, KC can get it done.
They’ve got home field and both the defense and offense are stellar.
The Chiefs, though, are likely to face the Ravens in the AFC title game and Baltimore is dialed in this season.
So at the sportsbook odds, I’m passing on KC.
Second AFC Pick: Chiefs +150
Best Underdog Play: Denver Broncos +3000
If the Broncos make it to the playoffs, that’s an if right now, they’re the best underdog play.
Denver has a good enough defense and Bro Nix has improved enough for Sean Payton to have a puncher’s chance.
No doubt, any team not named Baltimore or Kansas City is an underdog.
This goes for the Bills and Chargers as well.
So if you want to back a longshot, why not roll the dice on a rookie quarterback who plays with one of the most successful coaches in the NFL?
Underdog AFC Pick: Broncos +3000
What’s wrong with…
Buffalo Bills
Allen is great but the defense can implode. The Rams scored 42.
The Lions scored 42 and the Patriots scored 21.
LA Chargers
The Bolts can be up or down. Giving up 41 points at home to Baker Mayfield and the Bucs isn’t a good look.
The Chargers also lost at home to the Ravens and will have to travel at some point in the playoffs.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The offense can’t get back on track and time is running out.
Once George Pickens went down with an injury, the Steelers O became worse than vanilla. Call it albino vanilla.
Pickens has returned but the O still can’t get it together.
Houston Texans
Tank Dell going down to injury was a massive blow. Defenses can now double team Nico Collins.
The entire Texans team has floundered in the second half, going 3-5 straight up in their last 8.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals may not make the playoffs. If they do, they will be a legit underdog ala the Broncos.
But the defense struggles. So the Ravens or Chiefs should beat Cincinnati.
Miami Dolphins
If Miami makes the playoffs, it will be a surprise. Even if the Dolphins do punch their ticket, Tua is dealing with a hip issue.
Even if Tua was healthy, he doesn’t play on the road and Miami would have to travel.
