Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons (8-8 SU, 6-10 ATS) got off to a fantastic start under new head coach Dan Quinn – before collapsing after winning their first five games and struggling to cover their NFL Odds in a big way. Week 1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta (-3)
Analysis: The Falcons are the easy pick in this Week 1 opener after losing to Tampa Bay and failing to cover the NFL betting odds in both of their regular season matchups a year ago. The Falcons won both regular season meetings in 2014 and I suspect they will realize this is a NFC South divisional matchup they can’t afford to lose if they are to have any chance of reaching the playoffs in 2016. The Pick: Atlanta 31 Tampa Bay 21Week 4
Carolina Panthers (-4.5) at Atlanta
Analysis: The Falcons lost three of their final four home games a year ago, but were also the only team in the league to defeat Carolina during the regular season. The Falcons have won a consistent six of the last eight meetings against Can Newton and company and should get the outright home win against the Panthers for the second straight season. The Pick: Atlanta 24 Carolina 21 Week 5 Atlanta at Denver Broncos (-6.5) Analysis: Atlanta has won two of their last three games against Denver while covering the spread each time and I believe they’re going to bag another outright win over a Broncos team that will have a bullseye on its back all season long as the defending Super Bowl champs always do. The Broncos are just 1-2- 2 ATS over its last five home games and will find life without both, Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler a lot more difficult that it ever was a year ago. The Pick: Atlanta 21 Denver 20Week 7
San Diego Chargers at Atlanta (-3)
Analysis: Sure, these two teams have met only six times since 1991, but Atlanta has won all six meetings while going 4-2 ATS along the way. I likes the Falcons to score their fair share of points against a Chargers defense that ranked 21st in points allowed (24.9 ppg) a year ago. The Pick: Atlanta 31 San Diego 27Week 14
Atlanta at Los Angeles Rams (-3)
Analysis: The Falcons have won three straight and five of their last six meetings against the Rams while going 4-2 ATS over the stretch. With an offense that ranked a dismal 29th in scoring (17.5 ppg), Los Angeles faces a huge uphill battle in this Week 14 matchup, even at home. I know the Falcons were just 3-5 SU and ATS in its eight road games a year ago, but they lost five of those games by a touchdown or less and I believe Year 2 of the Dan Quinn era will be a lot different from the first. Back the Dirty Birds to win and cash in! The Pick: Atlanta 24 Los Angeles 21Week 16
Atlanta at Carolina Panthers (-8.5)
Analysis: Hold up…wait a minute. After already picking the Falcons to beat the Panthers in Week 4, could they pull off the regular season sweep against their NFC South division rivals? No….that’s not happening. But the Falcons also aren’t losing this Week 16 matchup by double digits. My final NFL online sportsbook betting pick says keep it simple and back the Falcons to cover the spread in a losing effort. The Pick: Carolina 24 Atlanta 20MyBookie NFL
