Writer’s Picks for the NFL Preseason

Green Bay Packers at Denver Broncos -7

Empower Field at Mile High Stadium

Denver is likely to give superstar in the making rookie quarterback Bo Nix a lot of time under center.

Green Bay won’t do the same with Jordan Love, which is why the Broncos should cover this spread.

Also, the Packers will want to sit Love’s top weapons, including Christian Watson, who must stay healthy for the Pack to have any shot of beating the Lions and winning the NFC North. Broncos win and cover.

What Are Green Bay’s Season Expectations?

Since the end of last season, expectations have exploded to the upside in Green Bay.

Some believe the Packers will not only overtake the Lions in the North but also win the AFC Conference.

Jordan Love has become a favorite to win NFL MVP. The buzz on Green Bay has been almost deafening at times.

Lown end expectations are the playoffs and high end expectations are a Super Bowl victory.

What Are Denver’s Season Expectations?

The AFC West is a tough division. Kansas City will rule the West but both the Chargers and the Raiders are decent clubs.

Denver is the worst team in the division.

So the expectations aren’t high in Sean Payton’s second season. One thing that Broncos’ fans do expect, though, is for the team to finish close to .500.

In that case, since NFL teams play 17 games, most Denver fans expect the Broncos to finish at 7-9.

It will happen if Nix is the next John Elway.

Packers vs Broncos ATS Pick: Denver Broncos -7

New Orleans Saints -2.5 at San Francisco 49ers

Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California

The Saints are the road favorites because the 49ers must not only rest their starters but also their second team players.

The reason? Many starters have come up with nagging injuries, which is a bad sign considering the regular season starts in less than a month.

New Orleans will try to get something going on offense. The Saints have gone from NFC South contender to finishing third in the four team division.

New Orleans knows they have a lot of work to do to catch up to the Falcons and Buccaneers, which means the Saints may play some of their starters on offense in this.

What Are New Orleans’s Season Expectations?

Most football fans expect New Orleans to contend for a wildcard.

Hopes of winning the NFC South have gone out the  window after the Falcons traded for linebacker Matthew Judon and signed all-pro starting safety Justin Simmons.

Simmons and Judon give the Falcons one of the top defenses in the NFL, not just the NFC South and not just the NFC.

Tampa is the defending champs, which means New Orleans is going to have a tough time to even land a wildcard.

Another season at home watching the playoffs on their televisions is the likeliest outcome.

What Are San Francisco’s Season Expectations?

Super Bowl or bust. Brock Purdy, Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, and Brandon Ayuik, at least for now, are the best at their positions.

The offense must get Trent Williams into camp or at least in towards the end of camp so that he can start at left tackle.

The defense, again, will be stellar.

The only thing standing in the way of the 49ers and a Super Bowl are the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs.

Those are a couple of big road blocks, but if things go right for SF, the Niners have a real shot of lifting the Lombardi.

Saints vs 49ers ATS Pick: New Orleans Saints -2.5
