The trade deadline is looming, but we are already seeing teams get in on the act early as they look to build a Stanley Cup winning squad. The Calgary Flames were one of the first off the mark, picking up Tyler Toffoli from the Montreal Canadiens and seeing him make an immediate impact, with their new acquisition scoring in his debut. There are going to be many more moves made before the deadline closes, at which point we will have a much clearer idea of which teams might be ready to make a run. For now, we are going to look ahead to the games set to be played between Friday and Sunday so you can bet against the NHL Odds. There are some big ones in there that are of the must bet variety, so let’s take a look.
NHL Must Bet Games: Only Weekend Games – Feb. 18th to 20th
Nashville Predators at Carolina Hurricanes – Friday
The Predators head into the weekend looking to snap a run that has seen them lose 3 in a row. They are now down in 4th in the Central Division, albeit only 3 points back of the 2nd place spot in the division. After leading the Atlantic Division for a while, the Hurricanes gave up the lead to the surging Tampa Bay Lightning. It’s about as close as it gets between those two teams, so don’t be surprised if we see the lead change a couple more times before the regular season comes to an end. Two very good teams squaring off in this one.
St. Louis Blues at Toronto Maple Leafs – Saturday
You have to love these games where you have two very good teams meeting up in a non-conference game. It makes handicapping a little tougher given that they don’t face one another very often, but it’s still fun to see these matchups. The Blues are winners of 2 in a row and are in 3rd in the Central Division, although given how well the Avalanche are playing right now, 3rd is very good indeed. The Maple Leafs are 3rd in the Atlantic and trying to keep pace with the Lightning and Panthers. A big game for both teams in their hunt for a playoff spot.
Carolina Hurricanes at Pittsburgh Penguins – Sunday
Given that they have a pair of games making the must watch and wager list, it is clear that the Carolina Hurricanes have a tough weekend ahead of them. They would love to end this week back on top of the Atlantic Division, but with a pair of tough opponents to face, that is going to be easier said than done. The Penguins are winners of 4 in a row and are beginning to open up a modest lead at the top of the Metropolitan Division. They can really open up some space between themselves and the pack with a win over their closest rival.
Minnesota Wild at Edmonton Oilers – Sunday
If the season were to end today, both of these teams would be in the playoffs, with both currently sitting in the top 3 in their respective divisions. The Minnesota Wild are currently sitting in 2nd in the Central Division, and will be well aware that catching the Avalanche, who have opened up a 9-point lead, is going to be tough. They have won 2 in a row and gone 8-1-1 in their last 10, so it looks like they are up for the fight. The Edmonton Oilers are in the midst of a busy schedule as they make up their games in hand and they are winning, moving into 3rd in the Pacific Division.
