When you an 82-game season like they have in the NHL, there is often the perception that not every game is as meaningful as the next. That changes somewhat once we get into the second half of the season, and it becomes clear what teams need to do in order to make it to the postseason. The pressure gets raised with each passing game, with teams sitting below the playoff line beginning to see their postseason chances slip away with each loss. This is the stage of the season when the elite teams rise to the top, so let’s look ahead to this week’s games to pick out the ones that could potentially have an impact on the playoff races so you can bet against the NHL Odds.
NHL Betting | Must Wagers Games This Week (Feb. 14th – 17th)
Edmonton Oilers at San Jose Sharks – Monday
While the San Jose Sharks have lost 3 in a row and are second bottom in the Pacific Division, they are also still in the playoff hunt right now. They have a chance to make up some ground on one of the teams they are looking to catch when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. Edmonton is still in the race to win the division, but they need to take advantage of all the games they have in hand. This is a huge game for both teams as they look to make a run at getting above the playoff line.
Washington Capitals at Nashville Predators – Tuesday
The Washington Capitals are in a rather comfortable spot when looking at the big playoff picture. Yes, they would like to move out of the Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, but they do have a comfortable 11-point lead over the team sitting right below the playoff line. They have a tough one on Tuesday when they head to Nashville to face a Predators team that is sitting pretty in the playoff race at the moment. Two very good teams squaring off in this one.
Colorado Avalanche at Vegas Golden Knights – Wednesday
We have a big Western Conference clash set to go with this one. The Colorado Avalanche came into the season as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup and they are certainly living up to that billing. They are opening up a big lead at the top of the Conference, but this will be a stern test against the team currently sitting atop the Pacific Division. Are the Avalanche set to waltz away with the #1 seed in the West or are we going to see a team rise up and challenge them? This may give up a little bit of a clue.
Pittsburgh Penguins at Toronto Maple Leafs – Thursday
If the season were to end today, both of these teams would be comfortably in the playoffs. Right now, though, it is the Penguins who are playing the better hockey, coming into the new week on a 3-game win streak to take the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. The Maple Leafs are still in the top 3 in the Atlantic Division and doing their best to keep pace with the Panthers and the Lightning, but they have lost 2 in a row ahead of this week’s action.
