The Major League Soccer playoff race has reached fever pitch. Every team has just three or four games left in the season and the races for the last few spots in both conferences are tight. There is a full slate of midweek games on Wednesday night that will have huge ramifications. Let’s take a closer look at the biggest games on the MLS schedule Wednesday night so you can bet against the MLS odds.
Top MLS Games to Watch and Wager On the Week (Oct. 27th)
Atlanta United VS vs Inter Miami CF
Atlanta currently occupies the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but only based on goal differential. They can get take a big step toward securing a spot as -166 home favorites on Wednesday against Inter Miami, which has a +420 Moneyline. The Herons need to make up five points, so a head-to-head win over Atlanta would be huge for them. They’ve broken out of a massive slump with a 3-0 win over Toronto and a 5-1 win over Cincinnati, which could make Inter Miami poised to surprise Atlanta on the road despite being a heavy underdog.
Columbus Crew vs Orlando City SC
The Crew is hanging by a thread as far as the playoffs are concerned. They’ve taken just four points from their last four matches and are now five points out of a playoff spot with three matches left. In other words, they can’t afford to lose on Wednesday, although they are favored at home with a Moneyline of +108 compared to Orlando’s Moneyline of +230. Orlando City is close to clinching a playoff spot but they need to keep picking up points. Both Nani and Daryl Dike scored in a draw against top-seeded New England over the weekend, although Orlando allowed a 93rd-minute equalizer, so they could be a little down ahead of their trip to Columbus.
DC United vs New York Red Bulls
After suffering a 6-0 loss to NYCFC over the weekend, DC United comes home to host the other New York team. Despite being winless in four straight matches, United is just two points out of a playoff spot. They are also favored at home with a +117 Moneyline while the Red Bulls are listed at +225. If DC can get back on track, they would leapfrog the Red Bulls in the standings with a win. However, NYRB has won four straight and is unbeaten in its last eight matches.
Sporting Kansas City vs Los Angeles Galaxy
Sporting KC is already in the playoffs but the Wizards still have a chance to earn the top seed in the Western Conference. After beating Seattle on the road over the weekend, KC returns home as -107 favorites while the Galaxy has a Moneyline of +260. Likewise, the Galaxy is unbeaten in four straight matches and would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. But they still have some work to do to secure a playoff spot. They hope that Mexican star Javier Hernandez can carry them after notching two goals and an assist in his last three matches.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs Minnesota United FC
Wednesday’s schedule concludes with a tight match with Vancouver a slight favorite at home with a +148 Moneyline compared to Minnesota’s Moneyline of +170. These two teams currently occupy the last two playoff positions in the Western Conference, but both need to keep collecting points down the stretch. The Whitecaps have just one loss in their last eight matches. However, Minnesota is also coming on strong with two wins and a draw in its last three matches.
