Betting 2024 Atlanta Open

One of three ATP events this week prior to the Olympics tennis tournament, The Atlanta Open is an ATP 250 event that features six of the top-50 players in the world, headlined by American Ben Shelton.

American Taylor Fritz is the defending champion, but not participating this week as he will be in Paris for the 2024 Olympics.

It’s a hard courts tournament and the 36th edition of the event, which has champions such as Fritz, Alex de Minaur (x2), John Isner (x6), and Nick Kyrgios.

Since the event was held in Atlanta in 2010 (it was previously held in Indianapolis), there hasn’t been a champion outside of the US or Australia.

2024 Atlanta Open Top 3 Players

Ben Shelton

Shelton was somewhat surprisingly left off the US Olympic team in favor of Marcos Giron and Christopher Eubanks.

The world No. 14, who turns 22 in October, has had some big moments early in his career, notably reaching the US Open semi-final in 2023, and winning his second career title at ATP Houston earlier this season.

He also reached the semis in Auckland and Dallas.

Shelton is 23-15 this season after going 28-26 last year.

He is 9-6 on hard courts and hasn’t played since losing to Jannik Sinner in the fourth round at Wimbledon.

He’s the top seed in the tournament, meaning he receives a bye into the second round, but could run into trouble in the quarters against Denis Shapovalov, a wildcard entrant who took him to five sets at Wimbledon.

Adrian Mannarino

Adrian Mannarino might be the second seed in Atlanta, but the world No. 25 isn’t really worth betting on right now.

He is 7-19 this season, including 5-8 on hard courts, and has lost nine of his last 10 matches, many of which against lower-ranked players.

He even participated in a Challenger event a couple of months back in hopes of regaining confidence, but lost in the second round to Richard Gasquet.

Mannarino will play the winner of Aleksander Vukic and a qualifier in the second round.

Frances Tiafoe

Consistently ranked among the top-25 in the world, he has fallen to No. 30 as of July 21 and has a mediocre 15-16 record.

He would have been a lock last year, after going 40-21 and reaching a career-high No. 10, but 2024 has been an up-and-down year to put it best.

Tiafoe is just 6-6 on hard courts this year.

2024 Atlanta Open Final Prediction

I like him to win his half of the bracket, potentially meeting fourth seed Jordan Thompson in the final.

Every champion since 2010 has been Aussie or American, so why expect anything different.

ATP Pick: Tiafoe def. Thompson
