Draper is 4-1 this season after reaching the final in Adelaide and looks to be building off of a strong finish to the 2023 season. The 23-year-old is also a better hard court player, with a record of 31-12 on the surface last season compared to Giron’s 22-20 record on the surface in 2023.

Dan Evans (+100) vs. Lorenzo Sonego (-130)

Lorenzo Sonego is a good bet to advance to the third round, especially at -130 odds. He’s 2-0 in his career against Evans and has won both matches on hard court. Evans, however, has a better career record on outdoor hard courts (220-129 compared to 65-67). This is among the final first-round matches to be played in Melbourne.

Emma Raducanu (-375) vs. Shelby Rogers (+240)

If you’re looking for a strong betting underdog pick there’s few better options than Shelby Rogers over Emma Raducanu. This is one of the last first-round matches to be played early Tuesday morning. Raducanu beat Rogers 6-2, 6-1 in their lone match at the 2021 US Open, but that was somewhat of an anomaly as she won the grand slam that year but hasn’t been good at all since – she comes into this match ranked 296th in the world and dealt with nagging injuries all last season.

Rogers is a tough opponent for Raducanu in her first grand slam match of the season as she has experience on her side and has had some success in Australia, reaching the Round of 16 in 2021. She’s also 24-17 on outdoor hard courts in the last two seasons, whereas Raducanu is 15-15.

Felix Auger-Aliassime (-850) vs. Hugo Grenier (+400)

If there’s any match where bettors can take advantage of a high-value underdog in the second round it’s Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Hugo Grenier. Auger-Aliassime is coming off of a disappointing season in which he struggled at grand slams and played the longest match of his career – 4 hours and 59 minutes – against Dominic Thiem in the first round, beating him in five sets. Grenier is also at his best on hard courts, with a career 186-93 record, including 40-23 dating back to the 2022 season.

Jiri Lehecka (-280) vs. Alex Michelsen (+180)

While there’s not a ton of value in taking the favorite here, it certainly feels like a sure thing for Jiri Lehecka to move into the third round. Alex Michelsen is a highly-touted 19-year-old American with a career 49-23 record on hard courts and is coming off of an impressive win over Aussie James McCabe in the first round, but is playing in just his second grand slam and lacks experience against higher-quality opponents – he’s just 8-10 in singles in ATP Tour events. Lehecka, a quarter-finalist in last year’s Australian Open, is coming off of his first career ATP tournament win at the Adelaide International.

This is undeniably the most anticipated match in either draw in the second round and probably a match-up that should have been saved for later in the draw.
