French Open Betting Predictions: Possible Upsets Throughout the Tournament

Betting French Open Odds: Possible Upsets Throughout the Tournament

Top players like Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek on the WTA side and Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz on the ATP side have already attracted betting dollars. But favorites are vulnerable heading into this year’s French Open.

What possible upsets should we expect heading into tennis’ second major championship of the year?

Possible ATP French Open Singles Upsets

Alcaraz vulnerable at Roland-Garros
Carlos Alcaraz, the world’s number 3 player and the favorite to win the men’s singles title at Roland-Garros is 18-5 in singles matches this year. Alcaraz has also won a single tournament although he’s been the chalk in almost every tournament in which he’s played.

There doesn’t seem to be any significant issues with Carlos’ game. Rather, the problem is that the best player of his generation is up against some seriously talented opponents. For example, Andrey Rublev, the world’s sixth ranked player, beat Alcaraz at the quarter finals of the Mutua Madrid Open.

For sure, Alcaraz is an underlay to win the French Open. He has the talent but the pool on the men’s side is deep right now. So at low odds, he’s a play against.

Djoker is also a play against
2024 could be the year where Novak Djokovic’s game heads south. Tennis’ greatest player in its history is 11-4 in singles matches but has yet to win a tournament.

Djokovic knows he must keep himself sharp, which is why this week, while his competitors are preparing for the French Open, Djoker is playing in the Gonet Geneva Open. A victory in the Geneva Open will signal that Djokovic has returned to form.

But even then, he’s prime for an upset loss. Winning any major tournament is tough to accomplish and Djokovic offers low odds, like Alcaraz, versus a young and tough group of rising stars.

Rafa Nadal finds himself in a strange position, as an underdog playing over clay
The greatest tennis player over clay in the sport’s history is a +1400 underdog to win the French Open. Nadal is 1-3 in singles matches this season. So it’s unlikely that Rafa gets it done at Roland-Garros.

Still, the odds are decent and Nadal is the greatest player over the surface. He’s also the greatest French Open player of all time. If you think Rafa pulls a 1986 Jack Nicklaus at the Masters, then consider backing Nadal.

Another dog to consider is Rublev, who has already won 2 singles titles in 2024. Rublev is getting better and better.

Possible WTA French Open Singles Upsets

Iga Swiatek is on fire, but she faces a strong contingent at Roland-Garros
On the women’s side, it’s going to be tough to beat Iga Swiatek. The favorite to win back to back French Open titles heads to Roland-Garros after an easy 6-2, 6-3 victory over rival Aryna Sabalenka in the final at the Internazionale BNL d’Italia.

But this is a blog about possible upsets. So if you’re looking for an upset, then go against Swiatek. But do so early. In the past, Iga has fallen around the third or fourth round in major tournaments. Once she gets to the quarterfinals, she’s almost impossible to beat.

Aryna Sabalenka slowly playing back to her best form
Sabalenka, the world’s number 2 ranked player, is due for a let down performance at the French Open. Sabalenka’s best finish at the French Open was a semifinal finish last year.

She could turn it on, but after suffering a tragedy earlier in the year, it’s difficult to see Sabalenka being at her best throughout the grueling French Open. Expect Sabalenka, like possibly Swiatek, to fall early in the tournament.

Coco Gauff a tepid third choice to win the title
Gauff made the French Open Final in 2022. Coco has the talent to add a French Open Championship to her first major title win at the U.S. Open.

But Gauff has only a single title victory this season.
