Rublev Eases Past Tiafoe

Andrey Rublev made easy work of Frances Tiafoe on Tuesday, March 15, when he beat the American tennis player 2-0 in the Round of 32. And even though Rublev was expected to win, his performance on the day made many believe he could be a serious candidate to go all the way.

The seventh seed faced a trickly assignment on Tuesday as he had to face the home favorite, Tiafoe. But Rublev showed little interest in getting involved in a tight affair and needed just 70 minutes to brush past Tiuafoe with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

“To play Frances is never easy, and I’m happy to be through today and through to the fourth round for the first time in Indian Wells,” said Rublev.

“We’ll see what’s going to happen. Now there’s no pressure; I’ve done better than ever here, so now I just need to try to relax and play tennis.”

It marked Rublev’s 11th consecutive win of the season after he took titles in Dubai and Marseille. Moreover, this win improved Rublev’s record on the season to an impressive 16-2.

In this form, it’s tough to say where Rublev’s run will end, but he will definitely be the man to watch in the final stage of the BNP Paribas Open.

Dimitrov Stuns Bublik

Grigor Dimitrov made the trip to Indian Wells seven times before 2021, and he never made the Round of 16. But it seems like the eighth time was the charm, as he advanced to the semi-finals in 2021 before he had to admit defeat to the eventual champion, Cameron Norrie.

This year, Dimitros seems set to improve upon his showing last year, as he again locked in a spot in the Round of 16, with a commanding performance against the 31st seed Alexander Bublik, who he beat 6-3, 6-4 in a 69-minute performance.

Dimitrov won 41 of 51 service points and made just nine unforced errors, proving that he is in excellent form, but his journey to the top is far from over. Although the Bulgarian looked solid against Bublik, he now has to face his most formidable challenger yet, when he takes on the 23rd seed, John Isner, who made it past Diego Schwartzman (7-5, 6-3).

Hubert Hurkacz With His Eyes On The Prize

Hubert Hurkacz, who won his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title last year in Miami, has locked in a Round of 16 appearances at 2022 BNP Paribas Open with a close but well-deserved victory against Steve Johnson, who he beat 7-6, 6-3 on Tuesday.

Although an impressive performance from the Polish tennis star, it’s no secret that he likes to play at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Hurkacz has reached the quarter-finals here on his first two appearances in 2019 and 2021, and his victory in R4 now secures him his third consecutive trip to the QF at the Masters 1000 event.

However, while Hurkacz eliminated Johnson in straight sets, it was a tough test for the Pole. Still, he had a tactical advantage, as his coach, Craig Boynton, worked with Johnson previously, which just might be the difference-maker that helped Hurkacz secure the narrow victory.
