Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – July 15th Edition

Caleb Plant (18-0, 10 KOs) vs. Mike Lee (21-0, 11 KOs)

  • When: Saturday, July 20, 2019
  • Where: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Paradise, NV
  • TV: Fox PPV/Fox/Fox Deportes

Boxing Odds

These two undefeated fighters will throw down for 12 rounds, for Plant’s IBF super middleweight title. 32-year-old Illinois native Mike Lee stands 6’0” with a 74-inch reach. He’s an unblemished 21-0 in his career and enters this bout coming off a unanimous decision win over Jose Hernandez that earned him the NABO light heavyweight title in June of 2018.

27-year-old Caleb ‘Sweet Hands’ Plant stands 6’1” with a 74-inch reach. The Tennessee native is unbeaten in 18 career bouts and comes into this title fight off a unanimous decision win over Jose Uzcategui in January that saw him claim the IBF middleweight title.

Now, as he makes his first title defense, Plant is a heavy favorite and it’s easy for me to see why. Not only is Plant the younger and definitely more explosive fighter in this pairing, plus he’s got the added motivation of trying to retain his title. Just keep it simple here boxing bettors and back the champ to win, most likely, via unanimous decision.

Prediction: Caleb Plant Via Unanimous Decision

Keith Thurman (29-0-1, 22 KOs) vs. Manny Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs)

  • When: Saturday, July 20, 2019
  • Where: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Paradise, NV
  • TV: Fox PPV/Fox/Fox Deportes

Boxing Odds

These two notable stars will be square off in a12-round affair for Thurman’s WBA welterweight title. I know the great Manny Pacquiao is a living legend that has somehow both, extended and resurrected his career in recent years despite being 40-years-old, but I’m completely shocked that he’s favored over the much younger – and unbeaten – champion Keith Thurman heading into their super welterweight title bout this coming weekend.

Yes, I know Pacquiao has won two straight bouts and four of five including an impressive unanimous decision win over Adrien Broner in January that helped him retain his WBA ‘regular’ welterweight title, but Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman has beaten all challengers including Josesito Lopez via majority decision in January in his eighth defense of some form of the WBA welterweight title. For me, I’m going with the unbeaten champ to record a huge ‘upset’ by stopping Pacquiao inside the distance.

“He’s a legend,” Thurman said. “I get the last remaining legend. He’s like a dodo bird. He’s like a dinosaur. He might be old, but he’s not extinct. That’s my job, make him extinct.”

Again, despite the odds listing him as the favorite and despite his big edge in experience, Keith Thurman has the big advantage in age, speed – and punching power. I like the champ to win and cash in as a value-packed underdog!

Prediction: Keith Thurman Via Eighth Round KO
