2018 MLB Postseason Predictions – September 4th Edition

Written by on September 4, 2018

September marks the final month in the MLB Regular Season. As it happens every baseball season, most divisions remain up for grabs. Check out these MLB postseason odds after reading four of my top predictions for the 2018 MLB Postseason.

2018 MLB Postseason Predictions – September 4th Edition

MLB Postseason Prediction #1:  New York Yankees will face the Oakland Athletics in the AL Wildcard Game

As of September 4, the Boston Red Sox have a comfortable 8.5 game lead over the New York Yankees. That’s a shame for the Yankees because they’ve got the second best record in baseball. It tells us how great Boston’s played during this MLB Regular Season. New York won’t win the NL East Division. They should secure a spot in the postseason, though, by winning the top AL Wildcard. The Yankees will face the Oakland Athletics in that game. Oakland has a shot to overtake the Houston Astros and win the AL West. They’re only 2.5 games behind the Astros as of September 4. But, Oakland ace Sean Manaea has less than a 50% chance of pitching again this season. That will end their chances of winning the division. They can grab the second wildcard.

MLB Postseason Prediction #2: Los Angeles Dodgers will win the NL West Division

All season long, I’ve knocked the L.A. Dodgers. Finally, they made a move this past week. L.A. is now within a half a game of NL West Division leading Colorado. The Dodgers should put Colorado away within the next couple of weeks. The Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 in a 4-game series over the weekend. This upcoming weekend, they battle the Colorado Rockies in a 3-game series. After the Dodgers beat the Rockies 2 games to 1, they’ll take a game to a game and a half lead over both Arizona and Colorado. From there, the Dodgers shouldn’t look back.

MLB Postseason Prediction #3: Chicago Cubs will win the NL Central Division while the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals will play each other in the NL Wildcard

Are the Cardinals a safe bet for the 2018 MLB Postseason? In the National League, the cream continues to rise to the top. Easily, the Chicago Cubs are the best team in the NL. Great postseason pitcher Cole Hamels has rocked it since taking his glove to the Windy City. The Cubs are 6-1 straight up while Hamels is 4-0 with 3 no-decisions in 7 starts. Chicago should win the NL Central, but that doesn’t mean both Milwaukee and St. Louis won’t make the postseason. Milwaukee leads the NL Wildcard Standings by 1.5 games over St. Louis. As of Sep. 4, the Cardinals are a game over the L.A. Dodgers.

MLB Postseason Prediction #4: Atlanta Braves beat out the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East Division

Try as they might, Philadelphia can’t make up ground on the Atlanta Braves. The Braves made a key move by trading for Baltimore starter Kevin Gausman. Gausman’s pulled a Cole Hamels going 4-1-1 in 6 starts in an Atlanta uniform. The Braves are 5-0 in Gausman’s last 6 starts. Braves and Phillies play 7 games in September. That will determine who wins the NL East Division. My prediction is that Atlanta goes 5-2 to win the NL East by 3 to 4 games.
